Bafmeng Female Emerging Elites, BAFEEL, an association of women of Bafmeng origin or married in Bafmeng, Fungom Subdivision in Menchum Division of the North West Region, has announced scholarships to 30 less privileged children in the community.

The announcement made by the association’s president, Irene Nayah Ful epse Mbua, came on the heels of their meeting in Yaounde on July 26.

“We are targeting 30 children who are really in need, for this back-school-school [2024/2025]. We’re looking at secondary school level, those who are entering Form 1. We’ll sponsor them from Form 1 to 5 and at then at that level, we’re going to decide if we continue with them through High School or we take another set from Form 1,” the BAFEEL president told The Guardian Post.

The beneficiaries will have their tuition fees paid and also received didactics for their studies from BAFEEL.

Created in 2023, the association has as vision to contribute in enhancing the well-being of the vulnerable and old people of Bafmeng.

Presenting the association, its president detailed: “We’re started in mid 2022 on social media, where we created a WhatsApp group to know ourselves, after which we scheduled our first physical meeting which held on February 26, 2023”

She said it was during the meeting that rules governing the association were put in place. Irene Nayah made mention of the fact that BAFEEL seeks to contribute in building a mentally stable and peaceful Bafmeng Community.

Its core objective is to provide basic necessities for the vulnerable, old and facilities of general interest.

“Being a philanthropic association, we decided to go in for those people that are mostly neglected. Some associations that do works of philanthropy sometimes limit their activities to orphanages, hospitals... in towns but we decided otherwise. We’re going to the interiors and this is because those people in the suburbs, their plights are being forgotten,” the president said.

Their activities centre around humanitarian outreach, working with community representatives to provide psycho-social support to the vulnerable and old people.

The first project BAFEEL carried out was the provision of maternity bed spreads for mothers and babies in Bafmeng medicalised health centre.

BAFEEL also intends to collaborate with community stakeholders to enhance peace in BafmengThe activities of the association are funded by members contributions and interest from loans.

The president of BAFEEL said they are opened for partnership that will help nurture “the new born baby”.

Apart from the launch of the scholarship scheme this September, which is their second project, the association is also earmarking the donation of matrasses and blankets to the older population who will be selected from the different settlements in Bafmeng.

The membership of the association stands at 20, with the president saying their numbers are expected to grow.
