For stellar service at helm of company: Musango Bus Service Managing Director clinches prestigious award.

The young, yet dynamic Managing Director, was singled out for his sterling performance at the helm of the Musango Bus Service.

The humble and soft-spoken Managing Director, who doesn’t operate in strict officialdom, was honoured by the United Nations, UN-CISRI, a permanent Observatory Mission in Cameroon and the Grass 2 Grace Humanitarian Organisation.

It was HRM Chief Thomas Fotang, Goodwill Ambassador of the UN-CISRI Cameroon, who handed the prize to the recipient. This was during a reserved reception ceremony staged at the Yaounde Ahala office of the inter-urban transport company. 

The event was attended by close collaborators of the Managing Director and other workers of the company, including drivers.

Organisers said Dinga Derick was recognised “As a ‘super star community hope giver,’ for his excellent humanitarian development services rendered to less privileged communities and as an outstanding nation builder, dignified leader and Managing Director par excellence in Cameroon”.

He was particularly praised for guiding the company to progress, despite the demise of the founder of the agency, the late Andrew Motanga Mojimba.

Chief Fotang said since becoming Managing Director, Dinga Derick has shown demonstrable commitment in ensuring the growth of the transport agency.

He said the Managing Director has put up a sterling performance, recording major breakthroughs in expanding the company countrywide.

While presenting the prestigious prize amidst thunderous applause from attendees, Chief Fotang described the Musango Managing Director as a great servant of the nation “who has the heart of gold”.

“He falls amongst few Cameroonians and other nationals who are to be honoured for a job well done in this nation,” he said. 

The founder of the Grass2Grass humanitarian foundation, said his organisation was in Yaounde “to celebrate a mover and shaker, who is an example of a veritable nation builder”.

While throwing accolades on the deserving recipient, Chief Fotang said the Managing Director has decided to kill the brain drain syndrome of the western world.

“He is an example to emulate. He has proven that no matter the odds, we can still make it in Cameroon,” he said of the awardee.

He then noted that Dinga is amongst few Cameroonians who have refused to ask what the nation has done for them but have decided to do something for the nation. 

Chief Fotang said Dinga has demonstrated immensurable love for the country. He said people like Dinga deserve to be celebrated “for putting this nation first”.

Chief Fotang while throwing flowers on Dinga, described the young chief executive as an agent of change and a philanthropist. 

Tracing his journey to the top, Chief Fotang told the gathering that Dinga “started as simple worker at the VIP Section of this outstanding bus service. He then moved to the position of cashier, manager and later Managing Director”.

He said “Dinga’s story is an inspiration to all Africans to emulate. The hardworking manager has been in the sector for more than ten years. As a dignified Managing Director, he has been pivotal in ensuring that things work positively for the Musango Bus Service and Musango Beach Hotel Company Ltd”.

Under his stewardship, Chief Fotang disclosed that these companies currently employ more than 400 Cameroonians directly and 150, indirectly.

Enter Musango Managing Director

Speaking shortly after being decorated with a diamond-like medal, accompanied with a trophy, muffler and a certificate of honour, the Managing Director of the Musango Bus Service said he was humbled by the distinction.

While stating that the distinction will serve as an encouragement and a motivation to do more, Dinga noted that the prize is a victory for the entire organisation. 

“I feel really happy. I didn’t expect this because you know I am just focused on doing my job, little did I know somebody was noticing…I feel really impressed. This award is an encouragement for me to do more,” he said. 

Dedicates award to late father 

Dinga said he was dedicating the award to his late father, Andrew Motanga. 

He recalled that: “…when we lost him, people wrote us off. They said it was government money and that our company will collapse. This is two years running, nothing has changed…we are going from one level to another”.

He said: “This award wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my father. He actually saw in me potentials which I could never have imagined. This award is actually his. I would have been nothing without him. The award is totally dedicated to Mr Andrew Motanga Mojimba, for his hope and trust in me”.

Musango Bus Service still alive

Dispelling any doubts that the company will continue to wax strong, despite the departure of his father, Dinga Derick noted that: “It is important for the public to know that Musango Bus Service, which they wrote off yesterday when the proprietor died, is still alive. We are moving forward from where he stopped”.

He, however, admitted that: “It has really been a tough period”. Dinga explained that: “When the pillar of a building is taken off, the building might collapse but with the strategy we have put in place, we are still in business”.
