Community Based Rehabilitation: CBC Health Services schools field workers on disability inclusion.

Some Community Based Rehabilitation field workers of the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services, CBCHS, have been schooled on mainstreaming disability inclusion in their different activities.

This was during a three-day workshop organised in Bafoussam in the West Region.

The capacity building workshop, which ended Saturday July 6, was organised as part of the CBC Health Services’ Socio-Economic Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, SEEPD programme.

Speaking during the workshop, the SEEPD Programme Manager, Awa Jacques Chirac, encouraged the CBC Health Services Community Based Rehabilitation field workers to facilitate the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all mainstream actions.

He urged them to do this by marketing the Community Based Inclusive Development, CBID, which is a development approach that ensures that persons with disabilities are respected and included in their communities on an equal basis with others in all areas of life.

The field workers were also called upon to use the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, CRPD, in advocating for their inclusion if they must succeed in their efforts to foster the CBID.

According to the SEEPD Programme Manager, the CBID takes precedence over all national legal instruments on the welfare of persons with disabilities.

At the end of the three-day capacity building event, the trainees went home with knowledge that will help them mobilise local resources and enable child safeguarding. They also honed skills in raising awareness and report electronically on disability inclusion amongst other issues.

It is worth noting that that the CBC Health Services has been implementing programmes promoting disability inclusion at all strata of the society, with the support of international partners like the Lilian Foundation, Austrialia AID and Christian Blind Mission, cbm.
