Celebrating excellence: Victoria Int’l Media Merit Award 7th edition billed for Douala August 16.

The Victoria International Media Merit Awards, VIIMMA, is gearing up for its highly anticipated 7th edition, scheduled to dazzle Douala this year. 

Held annually to recognise and celebrate excellence across Cameroon and beyond, this year's edition, slated for August 16, is expected to be spectacular. 



This disclosure was made in Douala Friday July 5, during a press conference that held at the headquarters of DASH Media Group. 

 

Honouring excellence 

VIIMMA has become synonymous with excellence, honouring people who perform well. It celebrates high performers across all walks of life. 

The event, organised by Cameroon Association of Media Professionals, CAMP, is a pivotal moment to recognise outstanding performance. 

 

A night of celebration, recognition

Scheduled to hold at the esteemed Lewat Hotel in Douala, the awards ceremony promises to be an evening of glamour and prestige. 

Speaking during the press conference, the President of the CAMP, Salomon Agborem, said “the seventh edition and the Victoria International Media Merit Award comes to Douala in a grand style and the grand style is in the sense that we're coming with innovations”. 

“We want pressmen and women in this city to also be part of it. Part of it, in the sense that they should get engaged in the nomination, which is has been done already and also get engaged in the voting, which is ongoing. They should also come and witness the event on August 16,” Agborem added. 

As anticipation builds for the upcoming event, media professionals and enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of this year's winners, as votes have been launched. 

With a spotlight on excellence, VIIMMA is seen by media professionals as an initiative that continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Cameroon as far as excellence in concerned. 

 

The media category

In the case of the media category, the award will be celebrating contributions across various platforms including radio, television, and online media.

It will feature a blend of traditional categories along with two new additions, showcasing versatility and innovation within the field. 

Categories such as environmental reporting and multi-platform excellence will continue to highlight the breadth of talent and the diverse stories that shape Cameroon's media narrative.

Nominees, selected through a rigorous process of peer and expert nomination, reflect the highest standards of journalistic integrity and creativity. 

The award not only celebrates winners but also serves as a catalyst for raising industry benchmarks and inspiring future generations of media professionals.

Esther Qui, member of the VIIMMA ethics committee, said: “First of all we are having the Agbor Balla Cash price  for human rights and humanitarian reports of the year as well as, the Albert Njie Mbondeh All-round best”.

She further explained that selections are carried out by a professional team of experts who take into consideration details that fall in line with the criteria needed, underscoring VIIMMA's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a culture of professionalism within the media.

 

Recognition/honouring domain

Meanwhile, in the recognition/honouring domain, VIIMMA will award 15 individuals, state institutions and corporate bodies for their outstanding contributions and supports to the development of Journalism and Mass Communication, telecommunications, industrial innovation, human rights and gender justice.
