Francophone subsystem of education: BEPC records drop in candidates’ performance in Centre Region.

The BEPC is the equivalent of the Ordinary Level in the English sub-system of education. The results were released on Tuesday July 2. 

The results were released by the Directorate of Examinations, Competitions and Certification, DECC, of the Ministry of Secondary Education. 

Statistics show that 68,989 candidates registered for the exams in the Centre Region with 68,116 actually sitting for the exams. 

The examination comprises certification such as; the Ordinary BEPC, Bilingual BEPC, Professional Aptitude Certificate, CAP, Tertiary Sciences and Techniques, STT.

The percentage pass this year is 72.91% as compared to that of last year, which was 79.93%, officials said. This shows a drop in performance of 7.42%. 

According to the DECC, 49,391 candidates succeeded in the exams in the Centre Region.

As per disciplines, the Ordinary BEP registered 53,870 candidates with 53,137 actually writing the exam. This gave a percentage participation of 71.10% compared to that of 2023 which was 80.37%.

For the Bilingual BEPC, 700 candidates registered in the Centre Region but only 696 wrote the exams. Out of this number, 603 candidates were declared successful giving a percentage of 86.39%.

CAP had a total of 10,193 candidates who registered but only 10,059 took part in the exams. Some 8,386 candidates recorded successful performances giving a rate of 83.37%.

In the STT discipline, 4,226 candidates registered for the exam but only 4,222 were present. Of this number, 2,620 candidates succeeded, giving a percentage of 62.06%.

It is worth mentioning that this year’s results aren't the best compared to previous years. In the meantime, those who succeeded in the exams have begun making preparations for the 2024/2025 academic year.
