West Region: Angry wife allegedly kills husband after dispute in Batcham.

The man allegedly butchered by his own wife

The people of Batcham, Bamboutos Division of the West Region have been gripped by shock and dismay after the brutal killing of a man whose name we could not immediately get, allegedly by his wife, who was only identified as Tiwa.

The macabre incident took place in the night of Monday June 24, breaking Tuesday June 25. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the community, unfolded after what was described as a brief dispute between the couple.

According to reports, the sequence of events leading to the gruesome act began innocuously. The couple is said to have returned home from a ceremony, having consumed alcohol, which may have contributed to heightened emotions.

The suspect, Tiwa, after the incident, is quoted as having recounted that: "Last night we came back from a ceremony having drunk a little alcohol, we had an argument".

Later that night, as her husband retired to bed, Tiwa reportedly made a chilling decision. She approached a neighbour under the guise of borrowing a machete, claiming it was for cutting wood and preparing corn for their children. The neighbour didn’t suspect that the innocent request would be linked to such a heinous crime.

Returning home with the machete, Tiwa found her husband asleep. In a moment of intense anger or possibly premeditation, she is alleged to have used the borrowed machete to fatally wound her husband. The act itself was horrifyingly calculated, as she is said to have washed the bloodied machete clean and concealed the clothes she had worn during the attack.

Her next move was equally disturbing; she sought refuge at the neighbour's house, concocting a false story about being kicked out by her husband and needing shelter until morning.

However, the neighbour, unaware of the true gravity of the situation, refused to accommodate her overnight. Tiwa then spent the remainder of the night in the same house as her deceased husband, before finally alerting the neighbourhood in the early hours of the morning.

Her confession paints a portrait of a woman driven to commit an unimaginable act of violence in a moment of heated argument, fueled possibly by alcohol and undisclosed tensions within their marriage.

The aftermath of her actions has left the community in shock and mourning, grappling with the loss of a member whose life was abruptly cut short.

As the authorities take charge of the investigation, Tiwa has detained alongside the neighbour who unwittingly lent her the murder weapon, according to reports.

The community now faces not only the tragedy of a life lost but also the unsettling realisation that such violence can erupt unexpectedly behind closed doors.

It should be noted that days back the same locality of Batcham was plunged into the mourning of children who had lost their lives to an alleged food poisoning.
