City Mayor lays out vision to make Limbe modern, smart city.

The City Mayor of Limbe in Fako Division of the South West Region, Paul Efome Ngale, has made public a vision to transform the municipality into a modern, smart city of the future within the next decade.
Efome Ngale unveiled the vision on Wednesday 19 June. This was during a meeting that took place at the premises of the Limbe City Council.

The meeting focused on launching studies for the updating of phase one of the Limbe Master Plan.

Addressing guests during the programme, City Mayor said Limbe has all the characteristics of a city destined to grow and develop.

The elaboration of the master plan of the city, Efome Ngale said will enable Limbe to grow into a smart city worth its status.

The municipal authority further detailed that the master plan will enable the city council to get a land use plan and a summary land use plan.

The plans, he underscored, will help the city’s administration to determine conditions for the use of space, control travel needs, protect forest areas, cultural heritage, natural and urban sites and landscapes to prevent natural hazards, pollution and other disturbances.

In this light, he added that, the master plan, when fully developed will enable the city of Limbe to address the perennial challenges of floods, traffic congestion, landslides and others.

“Limbe should have many access roads and now we are focused on the 27 km road from the Tiko Roundabout to the Man’o’ War Bay and the road network within the city. We want to improve the road network within the city to ease the movement of persons and goods within the city in fifteen minutes,” Efome Ngale told reporters.

The touristic potentials of the seaside city, the City Mayor also said, will witness a boost with projects such as the urbanisation of its peripheries, putting in place of a drainage master plan and the improvement in the electricity network alongside public safety with the provision of streetlights, hygiene and waste management.

On his part, the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, of Fako, Viang Mekala Engelbert, encouraged the population of the city to buy into the vision and support it for the transformation of Limbe.

The support, he said, should be demonstrated through sincere collaboration with data collectors to ensure the plan responds to the needs of the people.
