West Region: Woman loses five children to alleged poisoned food.

Love ones, in family compound, mourning the demise of the children

Batcham, a village in the West Region, was plunged into profound grief on Saturday, June 22, following the heartbreaking death of five children, said to be aged between six and 12 years.

The children tragically passed away after consuming apples and spaghetti, said to have allegedly been poisoned.

The devastating incident has left the entire community in shock and consternation.

Initially, three children died shortly after consuming the meal, while a fourth tragically passed away hours later. Additionally, reports indicate that a fifth child, in a critical condition, also succumbed to the unknown cause, heightening the community's anguish.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain unclear. Authorities have not confirmed whether the meal was deliberately poisoned, or the children fell victim to a fatal case of food poisoning.

The lack of clarity has intensified the distress and concern among Batcham's residents, who are grappling with the sudden and inexplicable loss of the children.

The children were reportedly from a polygamous family, all belonging to the second wife, while the critically ill fifth child was from the first wife.

The family structure adds layers of complexity to the tragedy, underscoring the deep personal impact on multiple households within the community.

Local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the deaths.

Community leaders and health officials are collaborating closely with law enforcement officers to conduct thorough examinations of the meal consumed and to interview witnesses who may provide insights into the events leading up to the tragedy.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities or health concerns promptly.
