South West: Minister Tasong launches Regional Territorial Planning, Sustainable Dev’t Plan.

The Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development in charge of Planning, Paul Tasong, has challenged development stakeholders in the South West Region to ensure that the Elaboration of the Territorial Planning and Sustainable Development Plan of the of the region is effective.



Minister Paul Tasong made the call Friday May 31 in Buea. This was during a workshop to launch the Elaboration of the Territorial Planning and Sustainable Development Plan of the South West Region. 

Speaking at the gathering, Minister Tasong encouraged stakeholders in the region to ensure that consultant working on the project receive the most collaboration to ensure that the region is fully mapped for development. 

The workshop was an opportunity for the consultant to edify development stakeholders in the region on the concept.

Speaking to the press after the workshop, Minister Tasong said the plan is part of government strategy to improve the development of the region.

“…as much as the government wants to improve the living standards of Cameroonians by tapping into the resources of the country, it must know and improve its knowledge of the territory, because we cannot transform what we do not understand,” the minister explained.

He said the meeting which brought together key development stakeholders in the region including members of the Regional Assembly, municipalities of the South West, parliamentarians, and representatives of the various technical ministries was to ensure the participation of all stakeholders in the development of the region.

The land use and sustainable development plan, he said, would be horizontal “because it is based on the potential of the territory”.

The consultant has twenty months to deliver all the deliverables envisaged by the project, after which the stakeholders will be edified on the plan.
