MTN Cameroon CEO outlines innovations for 21 Days of Y'ello Care.

Mitwa Ng’ambi, MTN Cameroon CEO

The Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of leading telecommunications company in the country, MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Ng’ambi, has outlined the major innovation for the 2024 edition of 21 Days of Y'ello Care.

This was while launching the 21 Days of Y’ello Care, recently.

The MTN Cameroon boss also took the commitment to make the event a memorable for all.

According to Mitwa, the major innovation this year will be the move from 21 Days to 30 Days of Y’ello Care. This, she said, is in line with the celebration of MTN Group’s 30th anniversary.

“For 2024, in reference to the Group’s 30 years of existence, we will have a special edition of the Y'ello Care programme which will run for 30 days in June,” she explained.

According to Mitwa, the focus of MTN Cameroon annual volunteering programme tagged “21 Days of Y'ello Care”, which is in its 18th edition, will be on three major themes; education, environment and financial inclusion.

“We are convinced that these themes are essential for the sustainable development of Cameroon. In the domain of education, we are going to build a digital centre at Government Primary School Bilonguè in Douala, this in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF and the Ministry of Basic Education. We are also going to renovate the buildings there,” Mitwa said.

In the domain of environment, she stated that they will proceed with the planting of trees, carrying out awareness campaigns on the need to conserve nature and promote sustainable farming practices.

During the campaign, she added that they equally plan to run an educative talk on climate change coupled with a reforestation campaign to be organised in the North, West and Centre regions with the aim of preventing drought and help in rehabilitating the forests.

She noted that at the level of financial inclusion, they plan to organise training sessions on the use of Mobile Money services for traditional chiefs to improve the management of their communities.

“All these projects are part of our drive to have a lasting impact on local communities. We don’t want to only improve on their living conditions in the short term, but also to give them the means to develop independently in the long term,” Mitwa said.

Thanks partners for support

She equally extended a message of gratitude to all the stakeholders who are and have been working with MTN on the Y'ello Care programme.

To her, it is thanks to their unfailing support that they have been able to carry out such extraordinary projects.

“I would also like to appeal to all Cameroonians to get involved in the development of our country. Together, we can build a better Cameroon for all. MTN Cameroon will continue to play an active role in the socio-economic development of the country. We are determined to invest in education, environmental protection and financial inclusion for a better future,” Mitwa stated.

Understanding the 21 Days of Y'ello Care

The 21 Days of Y'ello Care is a volunteer programme initiated by the MTN Group in 2007 to encourage employees of all its subsidiaries to get involved in solidarity actions for the benefit of the local communities.

It holds annually in the month of June. During this period, the Y'ello family made up of MTN employees, partners, suppliers and distributors pull up their sleeves and dig deep into their pockets to carry out several projects which impact the lives of the populations in several communities across the country.
