The Guardian Post’s Dewah Fabrice wins 2023 Best Sports Reporter Award.

This was during the 9th edition of the annual The Scoop Excellence Media Award. The ceremony took place in MACSONS Hotel-Limbe, Fako Division of the South West Region. 

According to the Publisher of The Scoop Newspaper, Larry Esong, the annual award is The Scoop Media Group's contribution to nation building. 

This, he said, is done by recognising and honouring excellence in all fields of life.

Esong averred that it is imperative to push Cameroonians doing well in their chosen fields to continue to do more.

Dewah expresses gratitude 

Speaking to The Guardian Post after receiving his distinction, Dewah Fabrice expressed gratitude to readers of The Scoop newspaper who voted for him, the award committee and the publisher of the newspaper, Lary Essong. 

The award-winning sports journalist said he “feels highly honoured” to have won the distinction. 

Dewah spotlighted the place of the most regularly published and most read newspaper in the Economic Community of Central Africa, ECCAS, The Guardian Post, where he works, in further shaping his quest for excellence in journalism and sports reporting in particular.

He surmised that the “distinction is a fresh testimony to The Guardian Post's already glaring outstanding dedication to promoting quality and excellent journalism”, before saluting the Publisher/ Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian Post, Ngah Christian, for believing in his talent and abilities and giving him “the golden opportunity to be part of the group”. 

The award winner also extended appreciation to The Guardian Post Managing Editor, Doh Bertrand; Senior Editor, Solomon Tembang; other editors at the same media house “and the wonderful brothers and sisters who I have been privileged to call my seniors and colleagues at The Guardian Post. I appreciate their support and orientation”.

The rising journalism and sports reporting star, in particular dedicated the recognition to his family members, singling his mother for endless support and guidance through life.

Dewah Fabrice reaping fruits of agility, consistency 

Dewah Fabrice Teh is a phenomenal sports reporter and analyst with extensive experience working for national and international media organs.

Dewah’s rising influence in journalism and sports reporting in particular caught the attention of The Guardian Post management in 2020. He has since then proven his worth and till date, remains one of the best sports reporting giant and analysts in contemporary times.

The graduate of the Yaounde Advanced School of Mass Communication, ASMAC, has been active within the country’s media landscape for 10 years. He developed interest in journalism since his Secondary School days and has worked himself to the top with the potential for more exploits.

Dewah, many media experts have said and rightly so, is among the rising journalism stars of his time. His matchless passion for sports reporting and attention to details when it comes to journalism, is another thing that makes him unique.

At The Guardian Post, Dewah has been at the heart of scribbling breathtaking reports, especially in The Guardian Post Sports. His brilliance is known across several circles.

The budding sports powerhouse who Dewah is, has been tested and proven from his days as one of the pioneers of The Guardian Post Sports edition.

He is the celebrated author of several feature and investigative stories. When it comes to football, handball, basketball, volleyball, athletics and more, Dewah is an all-rounder. 

Dewah’s memorable assignments, works 

Dewah has in his short but inspiring career this far, remained a star. His consistency and adaptability to reporting sports is in another world.

He has covered multiple national and international events, both virtually and on site. Some of these are the 2014, 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup tournaments. 

He also covered the 2016 and the 2020 Olympic Games. With respect to the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, Dewah has covered five editions viz; 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023. 

He also covered the African Women’s Volleyball Championship in Cameroon on site.  The soft-spoken, resourceful and dynamic young journalist has had his journalism works published by multiple news and information organisations across Africa.

In other aspects of sports, Dewah is a good sports pundit. He is a regular resource person for sports programmes of the Cameroon Radio Television, CRTV.

For the international media, Dewah is also an asset much sought after. He has been guest for major media organs in West and Southern Africa. Some of these countries are South Africa and Ghana.

Before joining The Guardian Post, Dewah had over the years, distinguished himself through unbiased reporting and quest for the truth.

Humble, inspiring trajectory

Dewah began his career as a sports presenter at the Chamba Community Radio in Ngoketunjia Division of the North West Region, sometimes in 2010. He later became Sports Editor at the same media organ.

Dewah quit Chamba Community Radio to hone his skills in higher journalism institutions. The youthful media personality later moved on to volunteer for state broadcaster, CRTV Centre Region and the National Station, for close to a year before switching to online journalism. 

He began practicing online journalism in 2018; writing for the sports news blog Pavelsportbiz, where he worked consistently for some two years. 

Dewah later joined Mysoccer24, where he had a stint. While at ASMAC, Dewah was an intern at Cameroon Tribune and Yaounde-based Royal FM Radio. 

His expertise next landed him at renowned Cameroonian sports news portal, Kick442.com. At Kicke442.com, he started off as a reporter and later rose through the ranks to become Acting Managing Editor. He served in this capacity before formally moving to The Guardian Post in December 2021.

Pleasing certification

Dewah studied journalism and mass communication at the prestigious and internationally acclaimed Advanced School of Mass Communication, ASMAC, Yaounde, where he graduated in flying colours. 

Before moving to study journalism in a bid to follow his career dream path, the celebrated young sports writer had a short stint in English Modern Letters at the University of Yaounde I.

Early this year, Dewah obtained a certification from the universally known Thomson Foundation. This was after completing a course on: “African stories: A guide for journalists on how to tell better stories about Africa”. 

In the assessment of many sports experts, Dewah is the next big thing to happen when it comes to sports reporting in Cameroon, Africa and the globe in the coming years.
