Officers of the Ebom Gendarmerie Brigade under the Yaounde II Gendarmerie Company have paraded a suspected notorious drug trafficker, Nteh Eric.
Nteh whom officers told reporters was arrested on May 26 was presented to the public last Thursday. He is accused of being a specialist in the buying and selling of Indian hemp.

According to the Interim Company Commander of the Yaounde II Gendarmerie Company, Captain Eteta’a Awa’a Guy Roger, the arrest of Nteh comes in the wake of fresh instructions from hierarchy to intensify the war against organised crime and drug trafficking.

Captain Eteta’a Awa’a told reporters that the suspect was uncovered thanks to a tipoff from informants.

“We have several agents and informants on the field who carry out covert operations and investigations,” he stated.

Having been alerted about the existence of “an individual who is one of the biggest suppliers of Indian hemp in the Yaounde II subdivision”, the Interim Company Commander said they organised a special raid on May 26 around 4a.m. during which Nteh was arrested.

He added that the operation was carried out in collaboration with their colleagues of the Mewoulou Brigade.

Captain Eteta’a Awa’a further disclosed that the 45-year-old suspect was arrested in “possession of three big bags of Indian hemp”.

He added that: “We are currently interrogating the suspect so that we can arrest his accomplices”.

The Interim Company Commander further said after due process, the suspect will be handed to judicial authorities.

Captain Eteta’a Awa’a thanked the Mewoulou Gendarmerie Brigade for the support it offered during the operation. He restated the commitment of the National Gendarmerie to clear the streets of Yaounde of hard drugs.

The suspect on his part told reporters that he had been in the business for three years. He recounted that: “I am a commercial taxi driver in Yaounde, a job which I do to support my sick mother as her only surviving child. It is difficult for me so I try to look for other ways of making money”.

He added that the three bags of Indian hemp weighing at least 30 kilograms each are worth 300,000 FCFA.

Nteh disclosed that having bought the drug from Nkomo village on the outskirts of Yaounde for 45,000 FCFA and transported it to Yaounde at the cost of 40,000 FCFA.

He admitted having people to whom he sells and they in turn retail the Indian hemp across Yaounde.
