Mezam SDO restricts dust-to-dawn circulation of bikes after deadly explosion.

It comes after a suspected separatist fighters Improvised Explosive Device, IED, exploded at a beer palour in Bamenda, on Saturday May 25, killing two persons and injuring at least 29 others.

According to the Prefectoral Order, anyone caught in violation of the ban will face the laws in force. The release indicated that the ban is indefinite.

The SDO, in the order, charged the Divisional Officers, DOs, mayors and security heads across the three Subdivisions that make up Bamenda, to implement the decision. The same instruction was assigned to the city mayor of Bamenda.

In another release signed same day, the SDO made an official statement as to what unfolded at a snack bar in Mankon, resulting in the death of two persons and the injuring several others.

According to the SDO, the explosives that claimed lives were detonated by suspected separatist fighters, onboard motorcycles. 

He narrated in his statement that: "On Saturday May 25, at about 8p.m, a group of armed terrorists, on motorcycles, invaded a snack bar in Mankon, Bamenda II, opposite the Bamenda Regional Hospital, and detonated two offensive grenades on the population, before disappearing into thin air".

Emile Mooh in the release, went ahead to show compassion to those injured and also extended a message of condolence to the bereaved families.

The SDO equally condemned the attack on unarmed civilians and called on the population to step up cooperation with security forces to uncover authors of such acts.

The restriction of the circulation of motorcycles, according to the Mezam administration, is to arrest the recent wave of attacks linked to separatist fighters across in Mezam Division.

Before the Bamenda explosion, gunmen, believed to be separatist fighters, had ahead of May 20 celebrations, opened fire on a drinking spot in Bambui. The attack claimed the lives of four persons, among them security officers.
