One dies, several injured in Douala-Yaounde bus crash.

It was gathered that the accident involved a bus belonging to the inter-urban transport agency, Men Travel.

The passenger bus is said to have collided with a truck resulting in the death of one person.

In a statement issued Monday, Men Travel agency confirmed the incident and said it involved a vehicle which “departed Douala at 3:30 am and was carrying 44 passengers, including two crew members”.

The company disclosed that “approximately 100km from Yaounde, near Sombo on national road N°4, it collided with a badly parked semi-trailer truck, causing the death of one of our team members, our colleague hostess, who died on the spot, and several injured passengers whom we immediately attended to”.

“We offer our deepest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. The management is deeply saddened by this incident and has already taken the necessary measures to ensure that all passengers on board the bus are effectively looked after,” the company quickly stated, before insisting that: “The safety of our passengers and staff is our top priority, and we intend to cooperate with the relevant authorities to clarify the precise causes of this accident”.

“We are aware of the trust our customers place in us, and are committed to maintaining and reinforcing it through rigorous safety measures and transparent communication,” they added.

According to a harrowing testimony from one of the passengers, the driver had apparently dozed off on the wheel, leading to the catastrophic accident.

Authorities have since opned investigations to ascentain the actual cause of the accident.
