Medical doctors and paramedical staff of the Bamenda Regional Hospital will henceforth perform their duties in a unique attire, thanks to the Mary Alieh Foundation.

On Thursday May 16, Mary Alieh Foundation, a nine-month-old foundation in Bamenda, donated over 3,600 scrubs to the Bamenda Regional Hospital.

The event took place at the hospital premises, in the presence of the hospital Director, Dr. Denis Nsame, and a team from Mary Alieh Foundation team, led by the Vice President, Nche Edwin.

Born at the Bamenda Regional Hospital together with his wife, who is the President of the foundation, Nche Edwin said it is their duty to give back to the community where they were raised.

"There's no way we can do anything without giving back home. What we are doing here is not a favour, it's a duty to give back to our community," Nche Edwin said.

The Vice President of the foundation also said the donation took place on May 16 because it is his birthday and he wanted to celebrate it in a special way by giving back to his community.

"We have to start thinking about this people who are sacrificing their lives for us. Today we brought them scrubs because there are a lot of people out there who just buy white robes in the market and rush into hospitals to cause trouble. Today, the hospital can easily identify who is who," Nche Edwin added.

Scrubs to resolve security challenges

After receiving the scrubs, the Director of the Bamenda Regional Hospital, Dr. Denis Nsame, revealed that each staff of the facility will have two each and the rest will be kept for new staff.

The scrubs are customised with both logos of the hospital and that of the Mary Alieh Foundation. This, according to the personalities, will help to quickly identify staff of the institution and to avoid outsiders from sneaking into the hospital, especially during this period of insecurity.

Hospital Director appreciates, demands more assistance

Upon receiving the scrubs, the Director of the Bamenda Regional Hospital thanked the Mary Alieh Foundation for thinking about the hospital. Dr. Nsame, however, said the hospital still needs a lot, especially in terms of equipment and facility.

"It's very important that we identify the staff who are here. This dress code is very important to our staff because they can carry their duties smartly. We still need a lot of equipment and renovation on some of the buildings," Dr. Nsame said.

The visit was also an opportunity for the Mary Alieh Foundation team to meet with two victims of the February 11 bomb blast in Nkambe, who are still receiving treatment at the hospital.

The team, led by the Vice President of the foundation, encouraged them and gave them financial and material support to carter for their health.

While wishing them a quick recovery, Nche Edwin reminded the form two and form four students about the importance of education. He urged them to resume school as soon as they leave the hospital.

The Mary Alieh Foundation was created just nine months ago in honour of late Mama Mary Alieh, mother to the President of the foundation.

The foundation has also supported several hospitals including the Bamenda Regional Hospital with diverse equipment.
