Horror in Bamenda: Suspected Amba explosive kills two, injures over 29 in beer parlour.

The victims, whose names, The Guardian Post could not be immediately get, were confirmed dead by the Director of the Bamenda Regional hospital, Dr Denis Nsame, Sunday.

Speaking to CRTV Bamenda, Dr Denis Nsame revealed that one of the victims died on the spot, while the other died at the hospital. 

He added that 29 others were rushed to the hospital the night of the incident, with intense and minor injuries.

"One actually died on the spot, and one died in the theater while they were carrying operations. Most of them had multiple blast injuries. Presently, we have 11 admitted in the hospital ward. 11 had minor injuries that were treated and discharged,” Dr Nsame stated.

What actually happened?

On Saturday May 25, 2024, at about 8p.m., an explosion was reported at the said drinking spot, a few meters from the Bamenda Regional hospital.

According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred when several persons were having fun at the joint. 

Though no separatist armed group has claimed responsibility for the incident, many have said the explosive is the handiwork of separatist fighters seeking to reinforce ghost town operations across the North West Region.

The Saturday night blast comes at a time several locally-made explosive devices have been uncovered by security forces in the city of Bamenda.

Veterinary doctor abducted, killed 

Meanwhile, on Thursday May 23, the corpse of a Bamenda-based veterinary doctor, Dr Agwe Joseph, who was abducted on May 22, was discovered around Bambui.

Dr Agwe who was said to be the National President of the Kejom Keku Cultural and Development Association, KEKCUDA, is said to have been abducted on May 22.

Reports hold that he was taken to the unknown from his residence in Mile III Nkwen. 

Many were shocked when his corpse was spotted around Comprehensive High School, CHS, Bambui in Tubah Subdivision on Thursday May 23.

 Recent killings

These incidents come close to a week after suspected separatist fighters assassinated the Mayor of Belo Council, Dr Ngong Innocent, and the Inspector of Basic Education for Belo Subdivision, Dr Anghi Aaron Ngong. 

They were killed at close range on Monday May 20, as they stepped out to take part in activities marking the 52nd edition of the National Day.

Before now, another band of gunmen, still believed to be separatist fighters, on Tuesday May 14, opened fire on a drinking spot in Bambui, Tubah Subdivision, killing four persons, among them two security officers.

Over in the South West Region, the latest of such horrific killings attributed to separatist fighters occurred on Friday May 10. 

On that day, gunmen killed and roasted five security officers who were said to be on patrol along the Mamfe-Ekok stretch in Eyomojock Subdivision, Manyu Division. These incidents like many others before now have been condemned across the board.
