Killing of Belo mayor, basic education inspector: Senator Fointama Hilda says act barbaric, self-destructive.

They were gunned down as they made their way to the Belo municipal grandstand on foot, where celebrations marking the 52nd Nation Day had been scheduled.

Their killing has since sparked a wave of condemnation from individuals as well as rights organisations.

In a statement issued Wednesday May 22, Senator Fointama condemned “in strongest terms, such a barbaric act which is tantamount to self-destruction”.

She went on to urge “the peace-loving people of Boyo to remain committed to values interpersonal love and peace and to desist from acts of violence”.

To her, the killing of two PhD holders in such a barbaric manner, tells of how those behind the act, care less about human life and to a great extent human resource in the development of a community like Belo and Boyo.

She described the late mayor as a level-headed leader who was ever ready to listen when approached with issues of community development.

The Senator said she worked closely with the late municipal authority and was marveled at the ideas he had and how far he was ready to go to change the face of Belo municipality.

According to her, late Mayor Ngong Innocent was a huge resource not only to the people of Belo in particularly but to Boyo and Cameroon as a whole.

In the face of such an extremely sad situation, the Senator has extended her heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and is praying that God Almighty comforts the widows and orphans.

She has called for calm in the face of such an abominable act while hoping that investigations will uncover those behind the killing.

The corpses of Mayor Dr Ngong Innocent and Dr Anghi Aaron where deposited at the Bamenda Regional Hospital mortuary on Tuesday, May 21, amidst tears from family members and friends.

Belo continues to mourn their mayor, who in his four years in office, fought continuously to see that the Subdivision regains its position as the economic heartbeat of Boyo.

The municipality under late Mayor Ngong was beginning to get some lease of life, after the over seven-year long devastating armed conflict in the two Anglophone regions which has seriously affected several sectors.
