Ngaoundere: Accident injures 30 students en route to varsity games.

Some 30 students of the University Institute of Technology and Science of Yaounde have sustained varying injuries following an accident at the Mbe Cliff located some 45 kilometers from Ngaoundere in Adamawa Region. The accident happened on Wednesday May 22.
The students were heading to Garoua, North Region for this year’s edition of the University Games that goes underway tomorrow. The games will run till June 1, 2024.

Among the 30 injured students, The Guardian Post gathered that three are in critical condition. Witnesses said the vehicle in which the students were, lost control and the driver battled to take another bend to save the lives of the learners.

The Governor of the Adamawa Region is said to have dispatched a team of his collaborators to the accident scene. The team is said to have worked with local authorities to ensure the students were rushed to the hospital.

Meanwhile, administrators of the higher institution of learning have said no student died in the accident. They are said to have announced that some of the injured students are being treated at the Ngaoundere Regional Hospital.

Reports hold that this is the first time the University Institute of Technology and Science is taking part in the varsity games.

The Mbe Cliff has remained a persistent death trap for travellers. A good number of persons have lost their lives in accidents around the winding road.

One of such accidents is that of August 9, 2023, that claimed the lives of at least seven persons. The accident involved an interurban transport bus that was also headed for Maroua.

Following the public outcry that trailed the accident, the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Messina Ngale Bibehe, suspended the company involved for 15 days.
