On contact tour to Mmouck Leteh: Wabane DO says ready to accompany population in dev’t endeavours.

The village located some 25km from Dschang in the Menoua Division of the West Region has a population which is mostly agrarian in nature with the main food crop being Irish potatoes. The locals here are also into livestock rearing, including pigs, cows and goats.

During his tour in Mmouck Leteh, the DO visited some primary and secondary schools as well as health units. He was undertaking the tour since his appointment on January 19 January 2024 by the President of the Republic as the Divisional Officer of Wabane.

The visit paved way for the Divisional Officer to understand firsthand the issues plaguing the division.

One of the prominent challenges faced by the people of Mmouck Leteh as raised by the President of Mmuock Cultural and Development Association, MULCUDA, Mbape Apabeloim is accessibility. 

He also mentioned insufficient and even lack of basic social amenities as well as low school attendance.

“The people of Mmouck Leteh have quite a number of challenges and the main challenge is that of accessibility. Farm produce cannot easily be taken to the market and that is impacting education because it is through the sale of the produce that fees and other needs are taken care of,” MULCUDA president said.

He said the cultural and development association expects the support of the Divisional Officer to encourage parents to send their children to school and for government to open more farm to market road for the easy evacuation of their produce. 

Apart from the roads, the people of Mmouck Leteh have also appealed to want government to set up an Irish processing plant for the production of Irish potato flour as well as construct of warehouses.

They have also appealed that their health units be well equipped, so that improved health services be rendered to the locals. 

In the education sector, the Mmouck Leteh community is not only asking for more teachers to be deployed to their schools but also the equipping of Government Technical High School Ntemnzem so that students can better practice what they learn.

Access to electricity remains a major challenge which they believe the government can address. They took the resolution to be at the forefront of their own development by participating and championing peace efforts.

DO addresses concerns

During a working session with the development stakeholders and local authorities, the Divisional Officer demonstrated a commitment to ensure inclusive governance and leadership.

“I would like to say that we have taken note of the grievances that the population presented to us. The problems linked to the road, electrification and water. Those whose solutions can be found at the local level, I will not hesitate to work in collaboration with the mayor and the regional council. And the ones whose solutions cannot be found at the local level will be transmitted to the hierarchy,” Njimah Mama said.

He saluted the people of Mmouck Leteh for preserving and respecting their culture and tradition.

“I would like to that Wabane is a receptive land, particularly the Mmouck Leteh village. I was amazed by the tradition which is still deeply rooted within the population. It is a population which preserves her ancient culture which revolves around their leader who is the Fon Fotang,” the administrator stated. 

The indigenes articulated their gratitude to the Divisional Officer in anticipation that their concerns will be communicated to the appropriate channels for meaningful and rapid solutions. 

The indebtedness of the population was expressed through their chief, HRH Fotang VI of Mmouck Leteh who correspondingly conveyed the hope for swift resolutions to their burning issues.

“I’m totally satisfied, the DO received our problems and promised some solutions and that made me very happy,” 

Before leaving Mmock Leteh village, the Divisional Officer for Wabane was handed gifts. The visit of the DO was also marked by the installation of members of the construction committee of MULCUDA.
