The producer of locally consumed balm, Bome François, François Désiré Ekouma Ananga, has announced the temporary shutdown of his company.

The decision, Ananga said, will enable his company meet up with the public health regulation demands of their products. He made the disclosure during a press conference held in Yaounde May 19.

The presser, he said, followed a consultation between him, the Minister of Public Health, Dr Manaouda Malachie, and the President of the National Order of Pharmacists of Cameroon.

According to him, the presser aimed at informing media practitioners and the public on the latest developments and commitments taken by Bome François, a 100% Cameroonian pharmaceutical company to meet up with the demands of government.

Addressing media practitioners, François Désiré Ekouma noted that at the level of regulatory compliance, Bome François is committed to compile with the necessary documents so as to meet all applicable regulatory requirements.

He noted that: “We are working closely with the competent authorities to ensure that our products meet the strictest standards in terms of quality and safety as they continue to work to improve on the production process of the product”.

Temporal shutdown

He announced that production will be suspended temporarily in the factory. This, he said, will permit them to implement manufacturing processes that meet the required standards.

The break, he said, will permit them strengthen the procedures and ensure the quality of the products meet necessary standards.

He added that an experienced pharmacist has already been hired, and the team will continue to be reinforced to guarantee the quality and safety of the products.

Regarding the product which is already in the market, he noted that the stock will be sold out while announcing the gradual withdrawal of distributors and the product in general on the market in the coming days.

The absence of distributors of the product, he said is in accordance with instructions from the Ministry of Public Health.

Commits to meet regulations

According to him, Bome François will return to the market after it must have obtained the Marketing Authorisation, AMM, and other necessary approvals for manufacturing, quality control and distribution.

He intimated that with the acquisition of the AMM, Bome François will no longer be sold by street vendors as is currently done but will be integrated to the official circuit.

New sale points

Arrangements, he said, are already being made to ensure that Bome François remains close and accessible to every citizen.

“It will be found in all health centers, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies, and other legal medication distribution sites approved by the Ministry of Public Health. Until then, the population can take Bome François without fear. We rely on the support of law enforcement to protect our distributors on the field,” he told reporters.

He equally used the opportunity to thank the Minister of Public Health and its partners for their support while reassuring the population and consumers of the safe and effectiveness of Bome François.

“We would like to clarify that this product has a non-toxicity test delivered by the Institute of Medical Research and Studies of Medicinal Plants, IMPM of the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation,” he added.
