Mental Health Awareness Month: NGO urges population to advocate mental health support in communities.

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Safe Haven, has called on the population to advocate mental health support in communities in order to improve health conditions of for patients, survivors, families, friends and their communities.

The call was made during a yoga session and a fireside chat organised by Safe Haven. It was aimed at empowering survivors to amplify their voices and advocate a greater understanding and support to victims. 



Not leaving out victims of Gender-based Violence, GBV, and rape, Safe Haven, through these activities, seeks to provide a platform through which victims and survivors can amplify their voices, shedding more light on the challenges they face and the resilience they embody.

The interactive forum was not only to create awareness, but also to facilitate a deep understanding of the complexities surrounding mental health and GBV and also giving them opportunities to share their stories and speak up for themselves.

Aiming to foster empathy and solidarity within the community and ultimately contributing to a more supportive and informed society, the open engagements between survivors, victims and experts is to enhance mental wellbeing through holistic methods using physical and mindful methods.

The coordinator and team leader at Safe Haven, Dinayen Emilien, stating the aim of carrying out the physical activities, said it was the “activity was designed to complement the ongoing social media advocacy campaign and yoga was chosen particularly for youth to help them reconnect and rediscover themselves in fostering a sense of balance and healing”.

The initiative underscores the importance of mental wellness and aligns with the organisation commitment to promoting mental wellbeing and creating a safe and nurturing environment for survivors to heal and thrive.

The youth-led organisation aimed at promoting mental wellbeing focuses on empowering survivors of all forms of violence, providing them with a safe healing space, therapy, psychosocial assistance, helping them attain the growth and healing needed.
