West Region: Minister Mounouna installs pioneer National Youth Council Regional bureau.

Minister Mounouna Foutsou, during the installation ceremony, spoke on the importance of the oath of voluntary commitment and urged the young people to work to honour the country.

“Don't forget that you are volunteers. This means that you have freely chosen to devote a little of your time, your energy, your intelligence, your patience and your creativity to the service of collective development, without expecting any remuneration,” the member of government said.

He went on to assure the Regional Youth Councillors of his availability, and that of his ministry and staff, to accompany, supervise and support any initiative likely to contribute to the development of Cameroon's youth.

The President of the West Regional Council, Jules Hilaire Focka Focka, on his part, urged the youth to remain patriotic. 

This, he said, will also mean that the members of the Youth Regional Councils will have to stand as a barrier against the dangers that undermine peace, including hate speech and manipulation, insecurity, among others.

Speaking during the installation ceremony, the president of the National Youth Regional Councils for the West Region, Luc Sielenou, expressed the feelings of his peers while thanking government for involving them in the affairs of the state.

The youth of the West Region, he said, “feel honoured by this involvement in local affairs for they know that thanks to this, their voices will be heard”. 

He also pledged their voluntary commitment to the general interest and to serve the nation with love and honour. 

According to the communication unit of the ministry, the Youth Regional Councils were created to support, increase and capitalise on youth civic participation in local public affairs. 

It states that the aim of the Youth Regional Council is to provide young people with forums of learning, consultation and contribution to the political life of the State.

In the West Region, there are 90 young people who make up the Youth Regional Council, in line with the sociological make-up of the region.
