Bambui: Two security officers among four killed as suspected Amba fighters open fire on bar.

According to information from reliable sources in the area, the heavily armed men surrounded the drinking spot at about 8p.m. on Tuesday May 14, before opening fire.

Amongst those killed in the tragic incident was the bar owner, whose only name The Guardian Post got as Pascal. Two uniformed security officers and another civilian, are also said to have died in the incident. 

Our source who opted not to be quoted for security reasons, revealed that the armed men came when the owner of the drinking spot was about retiring home.

“They came on a motorbike and pretended to be potential buyers as I learned. Then, they surrendered everyone inside with guns and asked them to move outside. We only heard gunshots…we later discovered that the bar owner and three others were killed,” our source said. 

We gathered that the security officers killed in the shooting are reported to have been members of a detachment post at Mile 6 Bambui, who came for leisure. 

The source further revealed a young girl was injured in the act, allegedly by a stray bullet. The girl, whose mother is one of the deceased, is presently battling between life and death at a health facility.

We also gathered that the young girl, whose name we were unable to immediately get, was on a visit with her mother in the village. Family members of the deceased bar owner are completely heartbroken, since they got the sad news about the death of their father and brother.

The late Pascal has been described by his family members as the “breadwinner” of their family.

“Since our father left us years ago, he has been the father to the entire family. He is the only one who always helped us. I don’t know what we are going to do now,” a family member narrated in tears.

Corpses of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary, pending burial arrangements, we learned. As at the time of this report, no authority has commented on the act. Meanwhile no Amba group has claimed responsibility for the killings.

Bambui, which is one of the neighboring villages in the outskirts of North West Regional capital, Bamenda is noted for heated clashes between government soldiers and Amba fighters. There have also been repeated kidnappings and killings in the area, since the crisis degenerated into an armed conflict in 2017.
