At inauguration of CRID edifice: Parliamentary caucus on health says structure to boost fight against malaria.

Officials immortalising inauguration of CRID edifice

Members of the Parliamentary Caucus for Health Financing in Cameroon have saluted the commissioning of the edifice of Centre for Research in Infectious Diseases, CRID, stating that the emblematic structure has become a plus to the country’s efforts towards malaria eradication.

The members of the parliamentary caucus made the declaration during the inauguration of the edifice, located at the Nkoulou Carriere neighbourhood in Nkolofamba Subdivision, Mefou and Afamba Division of the Centre Region.

The ceremony Wednesday May 8, was presided over by Dr Georges Alain Etoundi Mballa, Director of Disease Control at the Ministry of Public, on behalf of the Minister, Manaouda Malachie.

Speaking at the event, Hon Marie Ngoko Mambe epse Tchouante, member of the parliamentary caucus, said their presence is justified by their unflinching support to the Cameroonian initiative, which is very important in the fight against malaria.

“We're delighted to have such a world-class structure in Cameroon. It’s a great day for us parliamentarians in the Caucus of Parliamentarians for Health Financing,” she said.

Noting that the caucus was set up to reflect on health problems, especially malaria and health financing, the Member of Parliament indicated that they are satisfied with the commissioning of the edifice of the centre, which carries out highly specialised research following their initial visit in the past.

Pledges support to CRID

Quizzed on how the caucus intends to support the centre in improving the health of the population, the lawmaker stated their wish to strengthen cooperation and collaboration with the different health institutions, especially CRID, and the Ministry of Public Health, through the National Malaria Control Programme.

“We are going to continue our work of monitoring government action, just as we are going to advocate to ensure the government continues to support this structure, which will undoubtedly do even greater things in the fight against malaria,” she told the press, adding that “we are going to fight to ensure that the State's counterpart funding for health can be mobilised”.

Wants centre to excel

Hon Marie Ngoko declared her desire to see CRID continue to excel in their researches on malaria, drug, and other health issues.

“We hope for continued national and international recognition. We also hope that CRID will be supported and accompanied so that it can monitor the quality of the vaccines that arrive in our country. We are delighted to know that this is part of its plans,” she affirmed.
