At 2nd Insurance Awareness Day: Gov’t assures SW residents of support in making insurance claims.

Held under the theme: "Protecting the Savings of Life Insurance and Capitalisation Policy Holders," the event featured an opening ceremony followed by a showcase of services. 

The Inspector General at the South West Governor's Office, who represented Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai, oversaw proceedings, with over 15 insurance institutions, transport unions, and Ministry of Finance representatives in attendance.

The Chief of Service in charge of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Finance, Mbeinta Lambert, emphasised the importance of understanding insurance benefits beyond mere legal compliance. 

He denounced malpractices in the sector, assuring citizens of the Ministry's readiness to intervene in cases of delayed or denied claims.

"Insurance is a good thing, but malpractices in the insurance sector are a bad thing... If you have challenges with insurance companies refusing to honour claims, knock on our doors and we will assist you," Mbeinta said. 

Transport syndicates, represented by the Federation of Autonomous Inter-Urban and Urban Transporters Syndicates, known by its French acronym FAUITS, also voiced concerns about high insurance costs and excessive road controls. 

They called for tax reductions to alleviate financial burdens and sought better regulation of smaller vehicles impeding their operations.

The South West Regional Chief for Insurance and Monetary, Lydia Efufa, highlighted government’s efforts to create a conducive environment amidst socio-political challenges. 

"The Government is doing everything possible to ensure a very flexible environment," Efufa affirmed, noting that increased subscription rates and sectoral growth through ongoing sensitisation efforts.

With stakeholders expressing shared interests and deliberating on challenges, hopes are high for the insurance sector to meet the needs of Cameroonians in the South West.
