On visit to writing centres: Secondary education minister salutes conduct of Common Entrance Exams.

The Minister of Secondary Education, Prof Nalova Lyonga Pauline, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of this year’s Common Entrance Examinations into Form One of secondary general and technical schools in the country.
Minister Nalova Lyonga expressed the delight Tuesday as she led a delegation of top officials from her ministry on a monitoring and assessment visit to some examination centres in the nation’s capital, Yaounde.

The member of government was accompanied during the early morning visit by the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Secondary Education in charge of Teacher Training, Boniface Bayaola.

The Secretary General at same ministry, Prof Fabien Nkot, was also part of the delegation.

More than 230,000 candidates countrywide are taking the examination to gain admission into secondary schools.

In the Centre Region, some 50,060 young learners are knocking at the doors of secondary schools.

During her visit, Minister Nalova Lyonga made brief stops at some examination centres lodged in some four secondary school establishments.

Her visit got on the rails of the campus of Government High School, GHS, Anguissa. She later proceeded to the campus of Government Technical School Yaounde before stopping at Government Bilingual Practicing High School, LBA, Yaounde.

Her last stop was on the campus of Government Bilingual High School, GBHS, Etoug Ebe-Yaounde.

Speaking at the close of her visit, Minister Nalova Lyonga told newsmen that the yearly exercise was unfolding hitch-free.

According to her, the examination centres and candidates have complied with laid down guidelines.

She however noted that government had taken note of areas of improvement in planning for future examinations.

“There are no complains. We thought that there were going to be problems but there are no problems. As we have seen, all the heads of institutions are comfortable. All the teachers are comfortable,” the minister told a group of prying reporters.

She immediately disclosed that: “They all have money in order to pay those who have taken part in the correction of the exams. As soon as the exams are over, all those who participated will be paid. These are points which we insisted on yesterday when we had a meeting. All that we agreed on in the meeting have been implemented”.

“I am very happy that are there no problems. You noticed that I visited GBHS Etoug Ebe last because I didn’t know what to expect. The buildings that were affected during the last crisis, there have all been rehabilitated very quickly to accommodate candidates for the exams,” the minister continued.

“I will like to praise the principal of GBHS Etoug Ebe and the PTA of this school for being able to arrange the campus for the exams. Everything is fine,” Minister Nalova Lyonga concluded.
