Horror as Amba fighters kill, roast five soldiers in Manyu.

Screenshot of arms and ammunitions reportedly seized after attack on soldiers

Separatist fighters have killed and roasted the bodies of some five soldiers in Manyu Division of the restive South West Region.

According to information gathered by The Guardian Post, the horror incident occurred in the morning of Friday May 10, along the Mamfe-Ekok road in Eyumojock Subdivision.

Sources familiar with the incident mentioned that the soldiers from the Eyumojock Gendarmerie Brigade, were on patrol mission when they were ambushed and brutally killed by the separatist fighters.

This is said to have occurred between the villages of Ayukaba and Eyangchang.

After shooting the soldiers to death, the separatist fighters reportedly set the corpses ablaze, including that of the Commander of the Eyumojock Gendarmerie Post.

The attackers are said to have later made away with arms and ammunitions, which were in possession of the security officers.

In a viral video on social media following the attack, the gunmen who identified themselves as separatist fighters, are seen brandishing guns, daggers, bullets and bullet proofs amongst other items, which they claimed were seized from the soldiers.

Meanwhile, it is alleged that one of the gendarmerie officers, however, managed to escape the attack.

PM condemns attack, urges population collaborate with security forces

The attack on the defence and security forces has provoked outrage and condemnation from government and civil society actors.

In a post published on his X, formerly known as Twitter account, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute, condemned the attack.

“I would like to express my indignation at the unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday morning on the Mamfe-Ekok road, between the villages of Ayukaba and Eyangchang,” the PM tweeted.

The Prime Minister added that: “The incident occurred when the Commander of the Eyumojock Brigade and four of his men, who were out on patrol, were ambushed by about thirty armed men from the secessionist group”.

He also expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers but urged the population to step up collaboration with security forces.

Meanwhile, government is yet to make an official statement on the attack. The attack comes barely days to the celebration of the 52nd edition of the National Day on May 20.

The attack in Eyumojock adds to several other attacks on soldiers perpetrated by separatist fighters, since the ongoing crisis in the North West and South West Regions, morphed into an armed conflict.
