Youth affairs minister lauds peace initiatives of two int’l organisations.

Speaking during the audience, Minister Mounouna Foutsou lauded the projects of the organisations, before stating his ministry’s readiness to support their efforts. 

The Minister pointed out that President Paul Biya is a strong proponent for peace, which he described as the only guarantee for growth and development. 

He praised the organisations for the Douala Peace Monument erected at the Bonanjo Central Post Office.

Mounouna Foutsou added that “it is in this light that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education has set up a Youth, Peace and Security Commission to reaffirm the commitment of Cameroon’s youth to the ideals of peace”.   

The head of the Belgian team, Léon Turck, explained that the aim of the project is to make an impact on communities through peace initiatives.

“The Monuments of Peace are a way of telling young people that, despite war, the idea of peace must never leave our minds,” Turck stated.

The President of Junior Chamber International, JCI Cameroon, Michel Ange Penka, for his part, highlighted that the initiative is geared towards the Head of State’s wish to promote and consolidate peace in the country.

“Every young person must remember that we need peace to be able to move forward, so our partnership with the Royal National Federation of Belgian Combatants, to build monuments of peace, reinforces this idea,” Penka said. 

At the close of the audience, the Belgian team presented a peace medal to Minister Mounouna Foutsou, in recognition of his efforts and actions undertaken to promote peace among Cameroonian youth.

JCI is a non-profit organisation of young people aged 18 to 40 who are committed to make a difference in their communities by fostering peace, unity and social cohesion.
