Meme: Vision 4’s Mbende Gillian wins peace journalism award.

The Meme, Ndian, Kupe-Muanenguba and Manyu reporter of the Yaounde-based television station, Vision 4, Mbende Gillian Ongie, has been awarded for her genre of journalism that promotes peace.
She achieved the historic feat on the sidelines of activities to celebrate the World Press Freedom Day on Friday May 3.

Like their counterparts elsewhere, journalists in Kumba observed the day under the theme: “A press for the planet: journalism in the face of environmental crisis”.

The event in Kumba was presided at on behalf of the Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, of Meme, Ntou'ou Ndong Chamberlin, by the Divisional Officer, DO, of Kumba I Subdivision, Ali Anugu.

The celebration featured presentations on election reporting, by seasoned journalist, Dr Numfor Ebot. There was another lecture on the Media and the Law by the State Counsel for Meme. It was delivered by his assistant, Somse Franklin. Meanwhile, Dr Ngoe Caven delivered another lecture on Non-Communicable Disease, NCDs.

The high point of the celebration was the presentation of awards by the Divisional Delegate of Communication, Ebane Kome Slesor. The delegate cited some five journalists whom she said have distinguished themselves in peace promotion.

Amongst the five journalists was Mbende Gillian. She was saluted for her dedication and commitment in doing her job.

The dedicated journalist, artiste, fashion designer and philanthropist, on her part, dedicated the recognition to her colleagues and vulnerable children.

Mbende said she fines pleasure in doing her job and promised to continue doing more.

About Mbende Gillian

The native of Mbakwa Supe in Konye Subdivision, Meme Division of the South West Region is a graduate from the University of Douala where she read Bilingual letters.

Her passion for journalism started way back in secondary school at Saker Baptist College. She was head of the school’s journalism club. She also led the same club at the Cameroon College of Arts and Science, CCAS, Kumba.

The celebrated journalist is also an artiste, with over five tracks to her credit. She has repeatedly talked about her interest in serving humanity without reserve.
