To boost digitalisation: FEDIPRESSE donates equipment to The Guardian Post.

Ngah, who is also Vice President of FEDIPRESSE, received the brand-new equipment from the hands of the association’s Permanent Secretary, Parfait Siki, and its Treasurer, Guibai Gatama.

This was during a brief ceremony at the Head Office of The Guardian Post, at the Efoulan-Lac neighbourhood in Yaounde.  

The donations from FEDIPRESSE consisted of two very high-tech desktop computers, two laptop quality laptop computers, three smart phones, three Wifi boxes, three hard drives, a printer and keyboards. 

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of FEDIPRESSE, Parfait Siki, stated that the equipment was to boost digitalisation at The Guardian Post. 

Siki went further to explain that at a time when technology is fast becoming a part of everyday life, there is the need to embrace digitalisation. 

To achieve this, Sidi disclosed, FEDIPRESSE resorted to making this commendable donation. The FEDIPRESS scribe went further to reveal that the equipment will take them closer to digitalisation.

Siki said the equipment will also facilitate the gathering, treatment and dissemination of information as well as increase the readership of the newspaper. Siki seized the occasion to invite the Publisher/Editor-in-chief of The Guardian Post daily newspaper to make good use of the equipment. 

“We have to go towards digitalisation. Newspapers are no longer sold on newsstands. In the entire Yaounde, we do not have up to 10 newspaper kiosks. That means if you need to buy a newspaper, you have to drive around the city. A newspaper costs 400 FCFA, but the fuel that one consumes to get the newspaper is more than the newspaper itself. We have to resolve this,” Siki said.  

He went further to say that: “Instead of readers going towards the newspaper, the newspapers must now go towards them. And that will be easier. The newspaper will also be cheaper”.

The Permanent Secretary also promised that FEDIPRESSE was working on getting more funding from its donors to ameliorate the working conditions of its members. Siki also announced the holding of a workshop on digitalisation in early June.

It is worth noting that the donations from FEDIPRESSE come after the association signed a historic partnership with the leading telecommunications company, MTN Cameroon. The agreement, signed on May 3, is set to boost online sale of newspapers. 

Publisher promises to make use of equipment 

Reacting to the donations, The Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian Post, Ngah Christian, thanked the FEDIPRESSE delegation for the kind gesture. He promised that the equipment will “be put into good use”. 

It is worth mentioning that similar donations were made to the Publishers of The Herald Tribune, Richard Nde Lajong and NewsWatch, Ndi Eugene Ndi. While describing it as a wonderful blessing, they both promised that the equipment will be used for the purpose for which it is intended.
