At celebration of International Girls in ICT Day: MTN Cameroon trains 100 girls to boost digital inclusion.

The day, it should be said, is set aside to create awareness on the need for more girls and women in the Information and Communication Technology, ICT sector. 

The 100 participants made up of students and dropouts in the town of Ngaoundere, were drilled on how to improve their digital skills and raise awareness on the importance of their integration into ICT fields. 

The training took place in the presence of the Lamido of Ngaoundere, Mohamadou Hayatou Issa; the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MTN Foundation, Sanda Oumarou; the CEO of MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Ng'ambi; and the representative of the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications.

Also present were regional women's associations in the field of technology, and regional women's associations in the town.

The training, which was held under the theme: “Leadership day”, enabled the participants to learn how to use technological solutions on their mobile phones to solve some issues.

During the training, the CEO of MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Ng'ambi, spoke about her career as a woman leader in the telecommunications sector. 

“ICTs are a powerful tool for empowerment and transformation. I urge young girls to break stereotypes and pursue your ICT dreams with passion and determination, to build a more equitable and prosperous future for all,” she said. 

The ICT sector, Mitwa said, offers a multitude of exciting careers such as engineering, software development, and much more and it is one of the domains that have constantly evolving field that will shape the future.

“Today, information and technology are more accessible than ever. This allows individuals and communities to thrive. At MTN Cameroon for instance, Technology is our core domain, and our main commitment is to provide the benefits of a modern connected life to the communities,” Mitwa said.

She challenged the young girls to believe in themselves and never stop learning while advising them to have mentors who inspire them and who they think can guide them on their career path.

“At MTN Cameroon, we are committed to supporting the education and inclusion of the most vulnerable communities. We believe in your potential. I am convinced that the next generation of ICT leaders will be bright and diverse. So, ladies, dive into the digital world! And together, let's shape a more inclusive and prosperous digital future,” Mitwa explained. 

The aim of the training, she added, was to give the young girls new digital skills and make them more competitive on the job market.

The training, she also said, was an opportunity for MTN to reaffirm its commitment to supporting education and digital inclusion for the most vulnerable communities in Cameroon.

The Lamido of Ngaoundere, Mohamadou Hayatou Issa, on his part thanked MTN Cameroon for choosing the town to carry out the training.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the MTN Foundation for its many contributions to the people of Ngaoundere and Lamidat.  I invite all the young girls who have completed this training to seize the advantages offered by ICTs in terms of job opportunities,” he said.

A participant, Hadjaratou Ahmadou, at the end of the training, thanked MTN Cameroon for the opportunity given them. 

“We received certificates at the end of the training and I will fully edify and thanks to this training, I am now equipped to launch an online business,” Hadjaratou said.
