At dedication ceremony: PC Bastos new session members urged to use time wisely.

The pastor who doubles as Presbyterial Secretary of the East Moungo North Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, was speaking during a church service to dedicate and commission the new session members of the congregation.

The crowd-pulling ceremony which was rich in pomp and fanfare, took place at the PC Bastos Congregation in Yaounde. 

It was attended by a host of dignitaries who gave the induction ceremony the grandeur it deserves. 

Drawing inspiration from the book of Ephesians 5:15-20, Rev Njongai challenged the newly dedicated session members to use their time wisely. 

He invited them to pray like David and Moses to God in order to understand the value of time and make the most of each day. 

The PC Bastos parish pastor reminded the new session members that time flies and that they shall be evaluated with what they were able to achieve in the beginning of their mandate and not the end. 

He stressed in his 23 minutes heart touching sermon that “the best time of the moment is the present moment”. 

“Today marks another milestone, another turning point, a new beginning in Presbyterian Church Bastos. The session that has just gone by is stepping aside in hope…The message I gave them in Church during my homily was to use the time they have judiciously because time flies. If we are here to dedicate a new session, it shows that time flies. Five years have just gone by. And I also did inform them that the future we look up to, arrives every day without many people realising it,” Rev Njongai said.   

He invited the new session members to set the right example for the rest of the congregation to follow in love, hope and faith. 

Rev Njongai said God has called them “to raise the Church higher through their work”. 

He expressed confidence that the new session will make PC Bastos a better Christian community. 

“…If you see the euphoria in Church, it shows that the hands are on deck. And the new session is not going to leave any stone unturned. As our hands are on board, they have vowed more than ever before to raise the name of Jesus Christ and score spiritual goals in PC Bastos,” he added. 

Session members vow to work diligently 

Speaking on behalf of the Session members, the Chairperson of the Congregation, Peter Kum Che, disclosed that they shall ensure that the service of the session members to the congregation equates the confidence that has been bestowed on them. 

The Congregational Chairperson, who is known for his resilience, levelheadedness and service to God’s people, pledged to work for the good of the congregation. 

He assured them that the session shall live up to expectation and “move the congregation to heights they deserve”.  

Elder Kum Che added that they have a few projects which they inherited from the outgoing session.  

He promised that the said projects, which he stressed aims to further unify and improve on the spiritual life of the congregation, shall be realised in the foreseeable future. 

“The project is about 1,000 hectares of land to be cultivated within these five years that we have inherited. We will plant 300 hectares of cashew nuts, 300 hectares of cocoa, and plant palm on 30 hectares. We are sure that with all of these, we would be able to move the congregation forward,” elder Kum Che said. 

“The third plan that we have is to digitalise the congregation to make it in such a way that members are registered in a database. We have a website that portrays the image of the congregation and we will also create a live streaming programme so that wherever Presbyterians are, members of the congregations are able to take part in the service without necessarily being in the Church house,” the Chairperson of PC Bastos added. 

The new Chairperson of the PC Bastos Congregation seized the occasion to thank the previous session for the incredible work they did and their service to the congregation during their stint. 

One of the newly dedicated session members, Elder Lum Claudia Tanda, who is Commissioner of Police, told reporters that she is poised to take up the baton of command and help the congregation move forward in its mission. 

“God has given us gifts and all the gifts we will bring together to edify the body of Christ. We are going to harness these talents to move God’s Kingdom to another level according to his plan. I have plans but the plans of God supersede mine. So, it is all about submitting to the plans of God and I know once you submit, he will take you to higher heights,” Commissioner Tanda said. 

It is worth noting that the newly dedicated session members comprising elders, Congregational Secretary, Finance Officer, Treasurer, were voted on Sunday March 10. They have a five-year mandate.
