The Expanded Program on Immunisation, EPI, has carried out a vaccination campaign in response to the yellow fever epidemic in some health districts in the Adamawa Region.

The campaign which targets children from nine months and adults up to the age of 60, went underway on April 10 in the Djohong, Meiganga and Tignere health districts.

Teams of the Expanded Program on Immunisaiton were deployed to the field and the vaccination was largely conducted in chiefdoms, schools, markets, churches and mosque and other public places. They worked in collaboration with local authorities and opinion leaders.

Prior to the start of the vaccination, awareness raising meetings are said to have been organised to inform the population about its importance and encourage them to get vaccinated

Tignere Mohamadou Tela who received the yellow fever vaccine, expressed his joy and went on to thank government for what he said are “efforts to protect us from danger”.

In order to boost the exercise, mobile vaccination teams with good awareness raising strategies have deployed in order to target a great number of the population in these three localities.

According to officials of the Ministry of Public Health, eight cases of yellow fever were detected in the Region.

It should be noted that the same vaccination campaign against yellow fever carried out in the Adamawa in June 2022 saw over 300,000 registered.

The Ministry of Public Health says the vaccination campaigns are intended to ensure full immunisation of children and adults and to globally eradicate the disease.

Apart from the three health districts in the Adamawa, the health districts of Garoua I, Gashiga and Ngong in the North Region as well as Djoum in the South Region were involved in the campaign. It should be noted that in 2023, 65 cases of yellow fever were recorded in Cameroon with five deaths.
