Upcoming elections: Int’l blogger, Maybelle Boma, urges youth to massively enroll on electoral register.

The hashtag is a campaign to mobilise and sensitise Cameroonians to get registered on the electoral register, ahead of the 2025 presidential election and other future elections. 

“Today, I am officially launching the hashtags: #CameroonElections and #RegisterYourVoteNow as part of the sensitisation campaign for Cameroonian youths to register and participate in the upcoming presidential election in 2025 and other future elections in the country,” she declared. 

According to Maybelle Boma, she has “come to the realisation that the youth, who constitute the most populated age group of the Cameroonian population, are not taking their voting rights seriously”. 

She believes this “apparently has obstructed the change they dearly need in Cameroon”. 

As an advocate for peaceful change, which she believes the Cameroonian people as a whole and the youth in particular owe the nation, after forty-two years of alleged stagnation, she reiterates to Cameroonians that: “We must be in possession of our fundamental rights by taking the right civic duty and actions”.

“As we keep our hopes alive, we must equally ensure our civic voices are protected for us to make them matter in the change we long for. As we are all aware, achieving this change is a collective responsibility and we need to set the ground leveled for it to happen,” she noted. 

“It is for this reason we’re going to be a reminder to each and every one Cameroonian to get registered on the electoral register. This is by massively and continuously sharing these hashtags on our various social media platforms,” Boma added.

To make the voter registration campaign have a viral impact, the Cameroonian international blogger has appealed to fellow and colleague influential bloggers, to join the bandwagon and speak to their fans and followers on the need for them to get registered as potential voters. 

“I want to specially appeal to my Cameroonian colleague bloggers and influencers, to speak to Cameroonians, through the hashtags: #CameroonElections and #RegisterYourVoteNow and other means that will influence and motivate youths to enroll into the electoral college. We need to continuously be on alert that our target is for the youths to dominate the electoral college in Cameroon. We will achieve this through our collaboration in this sensitisation campaign. The time is now. I urge you all to be ambassadors for change. To end this; #RegisterYourVoteNow,” she said. 

The trending move by the blogger adds to similar calls that have been made by Cameroonian political and religious figures for the youth to spare no chance to get themselves registered on the electoral register. 

On the heels of the launch of #registeryourvotenow virtual campaign by Maybelle Boma, the President of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon, Archbishop Andrew Nkea, at the start of the 49th plenary assembly of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon, NECC, in Yaounde, on April 7, 2024, had called on Cameroonians to prepare themselves for a say at the 2025 presidential election, by registering on the electoral register.
