Supply of water to Yaounde, environs: Minister Eloundou Essomba announces completion of mega project.

The project is among priority moves the government has taken in recent years to step up water supply in major towns and cities nationwide.

According to the release, the physical execution rate of the PAEPYS stands at 100%. This, the minister indicated in his release, follows the completion of construction works on the dedicated power lines of the project on Saturday April 20.

With the completion of works, the minister said the goal of reducing the drinking water deficit witnessed in the city of Yaounde and its environs would be attained. The completed project, he noted, will result in the supply of an additional 300, 000 cubic metres of water per day.

He underscored that: “The next and final stage, which has already been launched, involves the actual start-up of tests in preparation for the official commissioning of the facility scheduled to take place in the next few weeks”. 

The next phase of works, the minister indicated, will see the individual and collective testing of the various equipment alongside the progressive filling and disinfection of pipes.

Minister Eloundou Essomba thanked the population supporting the project. He urged inhabitants of Yaounde in particular and surrounding communities to be patient as water would soon start flowing from their taps permanently.

This, he said could be as a result of the testing exercises carried out on the various machine installed.

The PAEPYS project, it should be said, was carried out by the SINOMACH Company. The project cost 399 billion FCFA. 15 percent of the budget came from the government while 85 percent of the money was a loan  from the EXIM Bank of China.
