Combating cybercrimes: CAMTEL shares expertise with visiting Gabonese military delegation.

The delegation, which visited the CAMTEL headquarters, Monday April 22, is in Cameroon for a study trip. 

Members of the delegation are predominantly trainees of the 32nd batch of the Libreville Military Academy.

The 68-man delegation, led by the Commandant of the military academy, Brigadier General Mouissi Guy Pamphil, during the visit, held talks with CAMTEL authorities on issues of common interest.

It was Francis Ottou, the Technical Adviser No.1, who represented the CAMTEL General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi, at the meeting.

Speaking on behalf of CAMTEL General Manager, Francis Ottou, presented to the visiting delegation, the company’s efforts in combating multifaced threats as well as in securing electronic communication in Cameroon and beyond.

Ottou told his August guests, including 59 military personnel, that the visit was crucial, as it came at a time CAMTEL is broadening its cooperation with several African countries.

“This visit comes at a time when our company is celebrating its 25th anniversary, which started on September 8, last year. One of the materialisations of this celebration has been multi-workshops and round table discussions on the challenges, threats and opportunities in the ICT sector and the contribution of the digital economy to achieving sustainable development and growth,” he said. 

He continued that: “In this connection, I am pleased to make the exclusive announcement that this April, we will organise CAMTEL Diplomacy and Subregional Integration Day. The aim of this event is to lay emphasis on digital interconnection as a means of bringing together the people of the Subregion and reducing the digital divide. Today’s visit, therefore falls within the framework of cooperation of military diplomacy between CEMAC countries”.

The visit to Cameroon by the 32nd graduating batch of the Libreville Military Academy, it should be said, is part of a Cameroon-Gabon cooperation programme, which includes the training of Gabonese officers by the Ministry of Defense. 

The Ministry of Defence, it was disclosed, had chosen CAMTEL to provide training in cybercrime and cyberattacks.

During Monday’s ceremony, a presentation, capturing the mission and achievements of CAMTEL was delivered.

The presentation captured CAMTEL's products such as fiber optics and the soon-to-be-available mobile money service. 

This was followed by the presentation of CAMTEL’s offers and measures against cybercrimes. 

Partnerships with bodies such as the Directorate of Taxation, DGI, and the National Bureau of Civil Status, BUNEC, and the National Security, as part of the "e-government" programme, were unveiled. 

Other partnerships presented to the visiting delegation included that with countries in the Subregion such as Chad, Gabon and Guinea.

Brigadier General Mouissi Guy Pamphil, the Commandant of the Libreville Military Academy who led the delegation, felicitated the management of CAMTEL, for the company’s efforts in combating cybercrimes and related threats.

He told reporters that: "We have realised that CAMTEL is a powerful and strategic body for the Cameroonian government".

The 68-man delegation from Gabon, it should be said, was made up of 59 military personnel and nine staff members. The trainees are from 14 African countries, including Senegal, Uganda, Benin, CAR and Madagascar amongst others.
