UBA Cameroon, University of Ngaoundere seal deal.

The Rector of the University of Ngaoundere, Prof Abdoulmoumini Mamoudou, put pen on paper for the deal while UBA Cameroon Managing Director/CEO, Jude Anele, signed the convention on behalf of the financial institution. 

In his welcome remarks, UBA Cameroon MD/CEO, Jude Anele, described the partnership with the University of Ngaoundere as special. 

Anele told the varsity officials that the deal with UBA Cameroon is in line with the vision of the UBA Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, which is based on youth development.

“It is the vision of the chairman that the future of Africa relies on the youths. That is why we at UBA, are open to support the youth in business when they leave school," Anele stated.  

The UBA Cameroon MD/CEO used the occasion to also laud the efforts of the Head of State, President Paul Biya, “for choosing to invest in the youth infrastructure”.

The partnership with the University of Ngaoundere, Anele said, goes a long way to support on youth development infrastructure and see how to develop Cameroon the more. 

He recalled that UBA Cameroon, has for over a decade, positioned itself as a strong support for Cameroonian Universities in terms of infrastructural development and more. 

The Rector of the University of Ngaoundere, Prof Abdoulmoumini Mamoudou, said the deal binding the two institutions as an important win-win partnership. 

The varsity don recalled that going by the new university law laid down by the Head of State in July 2023, State Universities are expected to create enterprises. 

He said it is on this that the national institutions are in transition phase towards professionalisation of graduates and creation of small enterprises within the institutions. 

Prof Abdoulmoumin said this is in a bid to make Universities not solely dependent on government subventions as well as make them capable of sending out graduates who will be job creators instead of job seekers. 

The terms of the partnership, as explained by UBA Cameroon Deputy General Manager Designate, Anie Ekeme, indicates that the bank is through the partnership, offering the University of Ngaoundere the opportunity to master the number of students it has have through financial institution’s platform.

The deal will also enable the university to have its revenue secured with their budget managed by the bank and know exactly what they are expecting per year from students as fees. 

Besides that, UBA through the partnership, gives to students of the University of Ngaoundere the possibility of having an international visa card which will double as their student identity card and a payment tool. 

"So, they can pay tuition through the card, buy books online, purchase goods in Ngaoundere and beyond. The system will help them get used to financial instruments and manage their own resources. UBA, engages to support the University of Ngaoundere in terms of financing infrastructural development," Anie Ekeme explained. 

The deal, as the Rector of the University of Ngaoundere explained, is a move towards digitalisation of services. 

He said through the deal, they are working towards eliminating or reducing cash payment to accounting agents. 

"UBA will place at the disposal of the university, an agency and if the board members validate, the payment of staff will be done with bank card. This will help manage the funds at the disposal of the university," Prof Abdoulmoumini told reporters.

The University of Ngaoundere, it should be said, counts over 26,000 students, 600 lecturers and 400 support staff.
