2,360 medals to be awarded meritorious citizens on National Day.

The disclosure was made by the Grand Chancellor of the National Orders, Philemon Yang, in Yaounde Tuesday. He was speaking on behalf of the Head of State, Grand Master of the National Orders, H.E Paul Biya. 

This was while chairing the meeting of members of the Council of National Orders at the Unity Palace. 

The meeting, holding at the behest of the Head of State, Grand Master of National Orders, ended Thursday. 

The statutory meeting is focused on scrutinising the application files of potential recipients of medals of distinction on 20th May.

Recipients, it was disclosed, will be those who have distinguished themselves in their different fields of work in terms of hard work, discipline and loyalty to the State. 

The medals, it was also revealed, will include 275 for the Order of Valour, 1,200 medals of Merit, 175 medals of Order of Agriculture, 75 Sports medals, 500 medals for Public Forces, 25 medals of Valiance and 10 medals of Order of Military Valiance.

Speaking while presiding over the meeting on behalf of the Grand Master, President Paul Biya, the Grand Chancellor of National Orders, Philemon Yang, prescribed rigour and objectivity in the examination of the files. 

He told members of the council to ensure that results of their deliberations remain confidential, pending the approval of the President of the Republic cum Grand Master of the National Orders, Paul Biya.  

Worth recalling is the fact that during the 51st National Day celebration in 2023, some 3,200 Cameroonians, with proven time-tested loyalty and selfless services rendered to the nation, were distinguished. 

They included 300 for the Order of Valour, 1,300 for the Order of Merit, 200 for Agricultural Order of Merit, 100 for sports and 1,300 Order of Merit for the forces of law and order. 

The Grand Chancellor had during the meeting last year, disclosed that the National Orders is in the process of computerising the selection process, in order to make it more technical. 

“My dream is that one day, we will be able to use the system of computerisation when we hold meetings,” the Grand Chancellor said last year.
