As leadership tussle drags on: Anti-Cabral Libii PCRN faction announces congress.

Hon Cabral Libii: Embattled PCRN National President

The anti-Hon Cabral Libii faction of the Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation, PCRN, has announced a congress in Maroua, in the Far North Region.

The announcement is the content of a release, dated April 12.

It is signed by an official, who identified himself as the Secretary of the Emergency Executive Bureau of the PCRN.

According to the release, the Robert Kona-led faction of the opposition party, will hold a congress on April 25 and 26, in the Far North regional capital of Maroua.

The author of the release stated that Cabral Libii who is serving as Member of Parliament, MP, of the crisis-plagued party, is not a member of the political configuration.

He said he was simply made honourary president of the party, for a period of two years. The author said the MP did not respect the clauses of the agreement and the ideology of the party.

The faction said on this ground, the mandate of Cabral Libii was not renewed. The release also states that Cabral’s mandate expired at the helm of the party in 2021.

Leadership battle drags on in court

Robert Kona, founder of the PCRN and his faction’s announcement, comes at a time the Kaele Magistrate Court in Mayo-Kani Division of the Far North Region, is yet to rule on who is the true leader of the political outfit.

Kona had dragged Hon Cabral Libii to court on December 27, 2023. The matter first came up for hearing on January 4 this year.

In a statement on April 4, the counsel for Hon Cabral Libii, who also doubles as one of the Vice Presidents of PCRN, Barrister Rene Roger Bebe, had indicated that the matter has been adjourned severally.

Barrister Bebe said when the matter opened on January 4, it was adjourned to February 1. He said it was again adjourned to March 7, April 4 and now May 2, 2024.

Kona’s prayers

Kona is said to be among other things praying the court to annul the resolutions of the PCRN congress of May 11, 2019, held in Guidiguis, Mayo-Kani Division of the Far North Region.

He is arguing that it was a simple meeting, with just 11 members in attendance that resulted in Cabral Libii assuming the leadership of the party.

Kona holds the opinion that if the court grants his prayers, Hon Cabral Libii will be ejected from office and PCRN founding fathers like him will take over the leadership of the party.

Cabral-led PCRN faction congress banned

It should be recalled that on November 16, 2023, the PCRN, under the leadership of Cabral Libii, had received an authorisation to hold its congress. It was supposed to take place from December 15 -17, in Kribi, Ocean Division of the South Region.

But days after approving the meeting, the administration banned the congress, citing threats to public peace and order.

In a release on November 24, 2023, PCRN National Secretary for Press, Information and Propaganda, Arman Okol, had said the U-turn of the administration was due to political and administrative pressure.
