Bamenda II Council: Mayor Chenwi Peter presents four-year balance sheet to public.

Recall that Chenwi Peter emerged Mayor of Bamenda II Council on March 20, 2020. 

Speaking at the presser, Chenwi said it was time for him to remind the population about the various projects executed during his mandate, his successes and challenges as well as future projects.

"This is the first time since we took over office, four years ago, that we are organising such a meeting. We thought it wise that with all the security challenges, to give a balance sheet because it won't be normal to sit quiet. So, it is good for those who elected us to know exactly what we have done for them and the communities," Mayor Chenwi said.

Key projects executed 

The press conference, it should be said, was proceeded by a PowerPoint presentation, followed by a series of questions from journalists.

Mayor Chenwi told newsmen that the projects realised in the municipality cut across social actions, health, promotion of education and sports, infrastructure development, purchase of equipment pool and partnerships.

The projects, he said, were financed through the Public Investment Budget or by the council. 

The mayor also cited the construction of a community hall in Mulang, construction of the Bamenda II Council hall and lodging facility hall in Ntambang, construction of a veterinary zoo technical centre, ongoing construction of new markets at Mile 90, construction of a block molding industry at Mbingfibieh, rehabilitation of roads and bridges, extension of electricity to quarters. 

It was also revealed that for the past four years, the council has donated boreholes at Ntambang, Nsongwa, Azire and others. 

The council, the mayor further disclosed, has donated back-to-school materials to persons living with disabilities, benches and renovated classrooms as well as donated medical equipment and rehabilitated health centres in the municipality.

He said the council has also offered support young people as well as purchased a front-end loader and a truck, which helps in the rehabilitation of road networks.

In the domain of sports, the Bamenda II Council, the mayor detailed, has supported football clubs in the region including PWD Bamenda and has equally hosted several sporting tournaments.

Other achievements, successes

The press conference was also an opportunity for the mayor to present some awards he and the council won during the mandate. 

He presented his award as Best Community Mayor and Developer of The Year 2022 awarded by Prime International.

He also presented the Council Excellence in Inclusion Award won for "outstanding performance in promoting disability inclusion development and safeguarding" awarded by the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services, CBCHS. 

The mayor also presented The Herald Tribune 2022 "Humanitarian Icon Award" won in recognition of numerous humanitarian activities as well as The Guardian Post "2020 Innovative Local Development Icon Award"

He also presented a Certificate of recognition by the Confederation of Cameroon Trade Unions, North West, as Outstanding Mayor.

Recognition by the Cooperation of the City of Brampton, City council Ontario-Canada in December 2022.

Promises to do more

At the close of the press conference, Mayor Chenwi saluted authorities of the region, the press, and security forces for being the support system throughout his mandate.

He also assured the population of his municipality that together with assistance from the councillors, they will do more.

"I want to assure you all that we are going to do more, we don't want to believe on verbal stories without justification. You all are part of the Bamenda II council, if we're succeeding today, it's thanks to your support," Mayor Chenwi concluded.
