ICT sector: MTN Cameroon, Huawei seal deal to strengthen digital capabilities of women.

MTN Cameroon CEO & Vice President of Huawei CEMAC brandishing sealed agreement

Electronic communications giant in the country, MTN Cameroon, and Huawei Technologies Ltd, have federate forces to hone the skills of women in the field of Information and Communication Technologies, ICTs, and other advanced technologies.

A Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, to this effect was signed at MTN Cameroon's head office March 18, 2024. 



The MoU was signed by the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Ng'ambi, and the Vice President of Huawei CEMAC, Weiwen (Henry). 

This was in the presence of the MTN Group Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, Nompilo Morafo.

Through this strategic partnership, Huawei is providing its state-of-the-art training centres and cutting-edge facilities, both locally and abroad, to women of the tech sector. 

Technical training and workshops will also be provided by experienced ICT industry leaders, offering support and personalised guidance to participants on cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence, cloud computing and cybersecurity.

Speaking after putting pen on paper for the deal, the CEO of MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Ng'ambi, expressed delight to partner with Huawei to “to launch this innovative training programme for women in technology”.

“This partnership will equip women with the technical skills and experience they need to excel in this rapidly evolving field. We believe that inclusion and diversity are key to the success of the ICT sector, and we are committed to creating the right environment for these talented women to grow," Mitwa Ng'ambi said. 

On his part, the Vice President of Huawei, CEMAC, Weiwen (Henry), said it was an honour for the company “to sign the partnership with MTN in Cameroon, as we have done in other African countries, such as Uganda, and we are ready to apply our expertise in the field of ICTs as well as digitalization for the digital development of women in Cameroon”. 

It should be recalled that since 2023, MTN Cameroon has been committed to equipping women with the skills they need to fully exploit their potential in the field of technology. 

Through its "Women In Tech" programme, the company aims at facilitating the acquisition of knowledge and skills by women of the ICT sector.

This collaboration between MTN Cameroon and Huawei, it was disclosed, characterises an important step in bridging the gender digital divide in Cameroon. 

By providing women with access to quality training and cutting-edge technologies, the two companies, it was added, are helping to build a more inclusive and diversified ICT sector, thereby fostering a more prosperous digital future for Cameroon.
