Prudential Beneficial seals deal with CNPS to protect its informal workers.

Insurance company, Prudential Beneficial Insurance, has signed a partnership with the National Social Insurance Fund, NSIF, better known by its French abbreviation CNPS, to guarantee social security and protection for its non-salaried workers and workers in the informal sector.
The agreement was signed Thursday March 21, at the headquarters of CNPS in Yaounde.

In effect, CNPS signed two agreements. One was between CNPS and Prudential Beneficial Life, and another was between CNPS and Prudential Beneficial General.

Although general in nature with a national scope, the agreement, officials said, will for a start, be applied only to non-salaried agents of Prudential Beneficial insurance.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Director General of CNPS, Mekulu Mvondo Akame Noel Alain Olivier, highlighted that the collaboration is in line with the social policy of the State.

He said the deal will help expand the scope of CNPS’s activities geared towards providing social security for all Cameroonians.

A Technical Adviser at CNPS, Bagoura Souaibou, on his part said through this agreement, CNPS will contribute in providing social coverage for workers that are not specified in the Labour Code and do not benefit from obligatory social coverage.

“This agreement seeks to protect workers of Prudential Beneficial who are not salaried workers so they can benefit from pension in their days of retirement,” the Technical Adviser said.

The Deputy Managing Director, DMD, of Prudential Beneficial Life and General Insurance, Handsome Brain Nkwenti Akor, pointed out that the agreement will provide non-salaried workers of Prudential Beneficial Life and Prudential Beneficial General the opportunity to benefit from retirement benefits.

The DMD expressed gratitude to CNPS for making it possible for the agreement to be reached. He added that Prudential Beneficial insurance has several workers who are not officially employed with salaries and don’t benefit from the CNPS contribution.

“Internally, we made some efforts to assist such workers but it was not sufficient. We pray that we have more of such initiatives to take care of those who work very hard when they are strong so they can benefit from the efforts they have put in when they are retired,” Akor said.

The partnership has a span of two years. Officials said, it will ensure the social protection of all workers of the insurance company irrespective of status.
