At Open Day: UB showcases achievements to public.

The occasion brought together students and staff from all the establishments of the institution as well as from some private higher education institutes mentored by the University of Buea.

The Open Day was an opportunity for the public to go behind the scenes and discover all that the University of Buea and its partner institutions offer to the world and open to lifelong learners, future university students, and their relatives to know UB in detail.

Addressing his collaborators, staff, students and guests, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, Prof Ngomo Horace Manga, said the Opem Day was organised to give the university a platform to show the public what it offers and the achievements of its students. 

He said it would allow high school students to visit the university and exchange with people who can guide their career paths. 

“We invited children from high school to guide them on career choices so they can understand which combination of courses can lead to what results in the future,” Prof Ngomo Manga said. 

After visiting the various stands projected by the different establishments of UB and those of partner institutions, the Vice Chancellor expressed amazement at what the students displayed. 

“I am amazed at what I have seen these students present, because what will make an impact is what they can be able to market. So, if we give them skills, the only way to know if they have acquired them is if they transmit those skills into products, from theory to practice. I am satisfied with what they have presented,” he noted.

With such skills portrayed by the students, Prof Ngomo Manga expressed confidence in graduates of the University of Buea always getting jobs and creating jobs for others. 

In this light, he said the expertise demonstrated the quality of education offered by the institution, which falls in line with the government's desire to see universities become centres of entrepreneurship.

Speaking to the press after the UB Open Day, Prof Ngomo said bringing high school students and the public into the institution was to showcase the milestones achieved by the institution and the fact that UB does not only provide the training platforms and capacity building, but also those mentored in private universities.

Talking to the press, Ngole Jessica, a high school student from Government High School, GHS, Bokova, said she was happy with her experience at the University of Buea. Ngole said she learnt a lot that would guide her in choosing the right career path, which was not possible without such an opportunity.

“I came here to discover some of the programmes offered by the University of Buea and I got the real orientation, because I learned a lot and I have become so confident with what I intend to become in the future,” she explained

With such a showcase and the positive response from the guests, Prof Ngomo concluded that the University of Buea merits the subventions it receives from the state of Cameroon with the products it produces every year.
