Douala: Gang of three armed robbers arrested, paraded.

The gang of three and their loot presented to the public

A gang of three armed robbers, suspected to have terrorised the populations of the Logpom and Logbessou neighbourhoods, in Douala V municipality, and of Yassa, in the Douala III municipality, were recently presented to the public, before they were placed under custody, awaiting trial.

The gendarmerie investigators are reported to have mentioned that the three suspects named Souonke K., L. Dassi and D. Nguetia, on the night of February 18 breaking February 19, fell into dragnet of the unit for the fight against serious crime of the Littoral Gendarmerie Legion.

The gendarmerie added that the suspects were arrested in a snack bar near Ndogpassi Village in Douala III Subdivision.

The investigators, reports added, pointed out that the three individuals, who operated using motorcycles, were specialised in causing terror by carrying out robberies of money, especially in money transfer kiosks, snatching motorcycles and attacking and harassing citizens returning home late.

The gendarmerie added that they were repeatedly informed of these inconveniences, and received several complaints filed by the victims, which prompted them to go after the thugs, a hunt which lasted almost three months

The gendarmerie, reports say, highlighted that it was thanks to a tip-off from an informant which led to the arrest of the bandits in a snack bar. They were arrested while they were celebrating a ‘successful’ attack, and new catches in the said snack bar.

However, three other suspects remain at large and a manhunt has been launched to track them down.

According to reports, an automatic pistol, two daggers, two motorcycles, electronic devices, four mobile phones, three power banks, an internet modem, and the sum of 360,000 FCFA were seized during the investigation.

The head of the unit for the fight against serious crime in Douala, Lieutenant Adolphe Ngrewui, took the opportunity to invite the population of the Littoral Region in general, and of the city of Douala in particular to denounce any suspicious behaviour which they are aware of.
