The management of Central Africa’s leading telecommunications company, Cameroon Telecommunications, CAMTEL, has felicitated its female staff for their contribution to the growth of the corporation.

The accolades were thrown on the women, Friday March 8. This was during a lavish reception organised on the sidelines of this year’s International Women’s Day.

It was the Deputy General Manager of CAMTEL, Daniel Desire Olle, who spoke on behalf of the management of the company.

The event held at the Club CAMTEL Complex, at the Dragage neighbourhood in the nation’s capital.

Friday’s reception was an offer of CAMTEL’s General Manager, Judith Yah Sunday epse Achidi, who was unavoidably absent at the ceremony.

Speaking as he represented the General Manager at the reception, the Deputy General Manager, Daniel Desire Olle, singled out the women of the corporation in praises.

He underlined the efforts made by CAMTEL to ensure women can operate their full potentials.

“CAMTEL, in its capacity as a corporate citizen and the secular arm of the State in the telecommunications sector, fully performs the mission assigned to it by the State, relating to the reduction of gender inequalities, inclusion of women and the development of human potential in general in various social, economic and technological transformation and processes,” Olle said.

He then noted that the appointment of Judith Yah Sunday Epse Achidi, as CAMTEL General Manager, by the Head of State, has further strengthened the corporation’s drive to give women more responsibility.

Besides the General Manager, several other women currently occupy lead positions in CAMTEL.

This include, one technical adviser, one inspector, six directors, 42 assistant directors, as well as heads of sub departments and regional representatives who are all women.

In addition, there are over a hundred female chiefs of services and sections as well as countless female engineers working at the telecommunications operator.

The Deputy General Manager also applauded CAMTEL women who are making strides in the telecommunications operator.

He was quick to challenge them not to relent in their efforts for history will remember them.

Revisiting weeklong activities to mark celebration

The 2024 edition of the International Women’s Day was an opportunity for women at CAMTEL to showcase the other side of their craft.

They had a busy week which started with a sports walk on March 2, on the streets of Yaounde, before proceeding with a clean-up campaign 48 hours later.

The women extended their outreach activities with a donation at a Yaounde-based orphanage, before taking part in culinary activities and a fashion parade, which brought out the riches of all the ten Regions of Cameroon.

It was thus an opportunity for the President of the Association of CAMTEL women, AFEC, Gisele Ntsama Zang, to praise the women for their solidarity which was key in making this year’s event a success.

She equally thanked the management of CAMTEL for making the corporation a place where women excel and hoped they will continue to be the pillar on which the institution can rely for better results.

This year’s International Women’s Day was celebrated globally under the theme: “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”.
