Exemplary leadership: Senator Nfon Mukete gets int'l recognition.

The recognition, handed to the revered traditional ruler on March 8, is from the Nigeria-based international publication, Naija Diaspora Magazine.

The ceremony took place at the courtyard of the Nfon’s Palace in Kumba. 

This was in the presence of the mayors of Kumba I, II and III. The City Mayor of Kumba, Gregory Ntemoyok Mewanu, members of the Kumba Traditional Council and the executive members of the Nigerian Union Kumba were also on hand to witness the crowd-pulling ceremony. 

The Nigerian Union Kumba delegation was led by its president, Akpu MacMillan. 

Reacting, Senator Nfon Mukete said he was elated to get the recognition from the Naija Magazine. He described the award as a huge honour.

Nfon Mukete told guests at the event that most of his friends and business partners are from Nigeria. The Nfon also talked of Cameroon’s very close and fruitful ties with Nigeria.

He revisited his nine-year service as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the United Bank for Africa, UBA Cameroon, under the leadership of the financial institution’s Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Tony Elumelu.

Nfon Mukete told the audience that, “...my father was a Minister in Nigeria from 1955 to 1959, under the Sir Tafawa Balewa-government; after schooling there in Uhumahia College...".

The senator also commended the Nigerian community in Kumba for living in peace with the host communities. He saluted their business exploits and high sense of peace and brotherliness in their dealings with denizens of Kumba.

Why Nfon Mukete won

The Publisher/Editor of Naija Diaspora Magazine, Ismail Adegbola, said Nfon was one of the few persons who featured in the first edition of the Diaspora Excellence Awards.

Adegbola said through the meticulous work of the Award Committee, Nfon Mukete was identified as an agent of positive change. He said the Nfon has been “contributing significantly to the development and promotion of ethical principles and enriching the tapestry of our society....".

He presented the Nfon with a lifetime achievement award. He thanked the Nfon for his inspiring public service, mentoring of young people and his dedication to works of humanity.

Adegbola and his team congratulated the Nfon for standing out as a role model to society in crusading peace and for being a God-fearing leader.

Bafaw elite hail Nfon Mukete 

Different speakers, among them Bafaw elite, hailed Nfon Mukete for staying true and being an exemplary leader who has remained the pride of his people.

Mayor Eseme Moses Esembe of the Kumba I Council hailed the Nfon and renewed his commitment to supporting the traditional ruler in all his endearvours.

Another elite, Stephen Sona Epoke, who is a businessman and a notable of the Bafaw palace, used the occasion to reflect on how he grew up with Nigerian children in Kumba. 

He said what stands out till date is the spirit of peaceful co-existence among Nigerians and residents of Kumba.

The Meme Divisional President of the Nigerian Union Kumba, branch Akpu MacMillan, described Kumba as home away from home. 

He said his marriage to a Cameroonian was a demonstration of how attached he is to his host community and country. He congratulated the Nfon for his peaceful leadership style.
