At Women’s Day feast in Yaounde: Bilingualism Commission recommits to up game in protecting women's rights.

Authorities of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism have restated the institution’s firm commitment in protecting the rights of women of the state-run body.
The fresh engagement was reechoed Friday during a sumptuous reception organised on the sidelines of the 39th edition of International Women's Day celebrated on March 8.

The event, held at the institution’s headquarters in Yaounde, brought together authorities of the commission including members and female staff of the body.

The brief yet colourful event which followed the parade at the Yaounde May 20th Boulevard, was chaired by the Commission’s Vice President, Oumarou Djika Saïdou. It was moment of conviviality that combined speeches, sketches and much more.

In her speech, staff representative of the Commission, Che Mercy, reviewed the background to the celebration of Women's Day.

She recalled what had already been done to protect women's rights in Cameroon in general, and within the Commission in particular.

After listening to the concerns raised by the women representative, the Vice President of the Commission, Oumarou Djika Saïdou, promised to channel the issues to the president of the Commission, Peter Mafany Musonge, whom he represented at the event.

"As we know him, he will certainly take all your grievances into account, as he has always done. You must always say thank you to this man whom the Head of State has kindly placed at the head of this Commission, and who spares no effort to supervise you and make you happy collaborators who work properly under his supervision," Oumarou Djika Saïdou said.

Speaking further, the Vice President reiterated the institution’s commitment to support all decisions taken by the authorities of the country in favor of women, which he said, fall within the core missions of the Commission.

He said all these will be achieved through the implementation of measures aimed not only at strengthening the institutional framework for the advancement of women, but also at promoting girls' education at both academic and socio-professional levels.

He also mentioned the fight against discrimination of all kinds of which women are most often the victims; the strengthening of the partnership between the Commission and civil society organisations in the context of raising awareness against hate speech and xenophobia; and the strengthening of legal instruments for the protection of abused and discriminated women in all sectors of social life.
