Female staff laud finance minister’s women’s empowerment verve.

This was as they carried out the last lap of week-long activities that culminated in the celebration of the Women’s Day.

The President of the Organising Committee of Women’s Day activities in the ministry, Dr Mveh Chantal, who is also the Director of the National Centre for Computer Development, CENADI, made public the position of her peers.

She asserted that since Motaze took the mantle of leadership in the ministry in 2018, he has spared no effort in introducing reforms that benefit the womenfolk and uplifting their living conditions.

The computer expert asserted that because of the generous provision made for them to celebrate the Women´s Day, what they did this year surpassed all others in terms of splendour and elaborateness. 

But the feasting notwithstanding, she called on the minister to create new impetus that would see the Ministry; and why not, the entire nation moving gradually but steadily towards gender parity.

She cited the theme of the celebration: “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress”, as a demonstration of the will of the United Nations and the international community to see more women at the heart of decision-making.

This, she said, would translate into poverty being reduced amongst the female folk; making more women financially independent; and empowering the female folk to also be able to tackle the challenges of climate change.

She also appealed for training opportunities, especially in the Ministry to be open to both genders without discrimination. 

Dr Mveh said the Amazons of MINFI were ready to join forces with the Ministry to, not only boost revenue mobilisation efforts but to also contribute in prudent and transparent financial management.

MINFI boss promises more

For his part, Minister Motaze assured the women that for the recognition given him, he stands to do even more to make sure that women serving under him continue to pride themselves as among the most fortunate Cameroonians.

He thanked Club Mundi for making the facility available for the activity. The minister showered praises on the women for organising fantastic weeklong celebrations. 

Motaze was particular about the special accent on the organisation and election of Miss MINFI 2024. 

The MINFI boss also appreciated the contribution of twins who sang at a certain point in the programme, alluding that the singers exhibited exceptional talent that needs to be nurtured to optimal fruition.

Minister Motaze finally assured the women that as long as the propose something that is sustainable, hierarchy is always ready to give them the needed support.

Award of trophies

The climax of the closing ceremony was the award of trophies to winners of all the activities they women organized during the week.

Consequently, the women who played in the handball team of the Directorate General of the Budget smiled home with a trophy, gold medals and cash prize.

The team from the Directorate General of Taxation won the silver medal, while the team from the Directorate General of Treasury, Financial and Monetary Cooperation, won the bronze medal.

Five coaches of the teams that competed in the handball matches were awarded prizes. Metuge Matilda won the Best Player Award. 

Dorothy Patos, won the highest goals scorer award. Miss MINFI 2024, Djamilatou, also won a special prize.
