Women’s Day: CNPS spices commemoration with thrilling football friendly against ENEO.

The game pitted the Association of Dynamic Women of CNPS, known by its abbreviation as ADYNAFE, against the women’s football team of the Yaoundé chapter of the electricity supply company, Energy of Cameroon, ENEO. 

It was played at the Yaounde Military Stadium at the Ngoa Ekelle neighbourhood, Wednesday March 6.

CNPS came through victorious in the game after a 2-1 domination of the ENEO team known as the Energizing Ladies of Yaoundé.

During the thrilling fixture, players of the two teams showcased their footballing talents and athletic skills. 

This was to the satisfaction buoyant fans and in confirmation of the women’s belief that they can excel in all human activities when given a level playing ground.

At the end of the game, the losing ENEO team took home the Fair Play Award of the match while CNPS’ ADYNAFE bagged the prestigious winners’ trophy.

Speaking in an interview shortly after the fixture, the team captains and players of the two teams described the gala match as a unique way to properly brace up for Women’s Day celebrations on March 8. 

“Despite the defeat, we are very proud as a team. We have a very good team and that could show. The fact that we were able to face off against a CNPS team which looked stronger than us and by losing by only 2-1, we believe that we were the winners instead,” ENEO’s team captain, Marie Virginie Omgbwa, said. 

“We as a team, are very happy. The game was fantastic and we managed to dominate and come out victorious,” said the skipper of CNPS’ ADYNAFE team, Ekotto Ze Pascaline. 

Reechoing women’s call for an equal, better world 

Wednesday’s football match came to add to what had been an enriching week-long series of joint activities organised between CNPS and ENEO female staff ahead Women’s Day commemorations.

Before the match, CNPS had on Tuesday March 5, organized a roundtable discussion with the women with talks among others, focusing on addressing gender-based violence. 

Speaking in an interview after the match on Wednesday, the President of ADYNAFE, Christiane Mpongo, said the gala match will go a long way in passing through women’s message of pushing to form a more suitable bond with men to ensure both genders come together in building a better world void of discrimination. 

“CNPS is a dynamic team. These are women of valor who are aware of the fact that although it was just a game, we have an image to show and uphold. We have this special spirit which makes us to always want to be serious even when we are carrying out fun activities. Our goal is to be leaders wherever we go,” the ADYNAFE boss said. 

“It was a very good experience for us sharing this moment with our sisters from ENEO before the celebrations proper on Friday. We are not used to doing this as an organization. We changed that this time around and we wanted to choose a citizen-focused organisation like ENEO. That is the reason why we also held a roundtable discussion besides the match,” she stated

According to Mpongo, she and her peers are hopeful that women will continue having the opportunity to get a level playing ground in all areas of their engagement to ensure they fully play frontline roles in pushing for a more improved world globally. 

“For this edition and upcoming editions of the International Women’s Day, we remain happy and optimistic that men are beginning to understanding and fortunately we will no longer be experiencing this disturbing discrimination faced by women and young girls at the level of organizations and the family,” she added.

CNPS fully engaged in promoting equality

Speaking at the close of Wednesday’s gala match, CNPS Human Resources Director, Nana Bello Bello, said the football match held as part of CNPS’s collaboration with ENEO ahead of this year’s Women’s Day.

Nana Bello said it falls in line with the structure’s ever-growing drive towards promoting women’s wellbeing and equality. 

“As we all know, CNPS is an organization that promotes social security. We are making all the necessary efforts to ensure that we succeed in doing that,” he said.

“That is the reason why we brought in ENEO because it is a citizen-based organisation. That also accounts for the fact that we gathered to celebrate these strong women through this football match,” he added.
