Renowned medics congratulating MICEI boss for winning award

The Cameroonian Society of Ophthalmology, CSO, has awarded the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of the Magrabi ICO Cameroon Eye Institute, MICEI, Dr Henry Nkumbe, for his exceptional leadership and unconditional eye care services to the community.

The renowned ophthalmologist was recognised during CSO’s 29th annual congress.

It was organised in the economic capital city, Douala, from February 29 to March 2. During the annual gathering, the MICEI CEO was awarded with the 2024 Eye Care Champion Award.

According to the President of the Cameroon Society of Ophthalmology, Dr Theodat Manga, the award given to Dr Nkumbe was “in recognition and appreciation of your exceptional leadership and unconditional commitment to service.”

The award was handed to Dr Nkumbe by the President of the Ophthalmology Society of Nigeria, Dr Abiola Oyeleye, who was the guest of honour at the congress.

After receiving the award, the vitreoretinal surgeon said he was delighted to receive such a recognition.

“I was honoured to be the recipient of the Cameroonian Society of Ophthalmology Eye Care Champion Award 2024. This is in recognition of my leadership and in eye care locally and internationally,” Dr Nkumbe told The Guardian Post

He then pledged not to relent his effort but to continue rendering quality eye care health services of international standard.

The opening ceremony of the congress was attended by the President of the Cameroon Medical Council, Dr Rudolphe Fonkoua, and the Chair of the Ophthalmology faculty of the West African College of Surgeons, WACS.

The congress was also marked by the participation of some experts from MICEI who made presentations on their know-how, with a total of around ten research presentations on clinical cases and procedures observed and implemented during treatment at MICEI situated at Obak, some 20km from Yaounde.

The MICEI experts also had the opportunity to exchange ideas and benefit from the expertise of other professionals from Cameroon during the auditoriums and roundtables.

It should be recalled that this award to MICEI CEO adds to a collection of awards received over the years.

In August 2022, he was recognised by the President of the Republic as Knight of the Order of Merit of Cameroon. Earlier the same year, he was recipient of the Best Africa Award in the United Kingdom. Dr Nkumbe is a former laureate of The Guardian Post Achievement Award, amongst other outstanding distinctions.
